The United States seeks to maintain its traditionally close and cordial ties with Lebanon, and to help preserve its independence, sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity.

The United States has also provided more than $2.9 billion in humanitarian assistance in Lebanon since the start of the Syria crisis.

Against this backdrop, senior U.S. officials continue to warn against Hezbollah opening a new front with Israel.
