Camorra: Francesco Schiavone repents, but silence and reticence do not convince prosecutors

Unresolved family issues continue to weigh on the long-awaited collaboration between "Sandokan" and the justice system
Last March, after 26 years in prison, the boss Francesco Schiavone, known as "Sandokan" for his resemblance to the Indian actor Kabir Bedi, decided to collaborate with justice. The news quickly spread around the world. On the other hand, the expectations and expectations are high: the secrets and names that the Casalesi boss could reveal are numerous and of great importance. But the collaboration with justice, which should have marked the end of an era with revelations capable of triggering upheavals, perhaps even in the political and judicial world, has so far proven to be less than fruitful.
Three months after the news of the repentance of the well-known Camorra boss, several silences and reticences have emerged which could suggest that the beginning of collaboration is anything but easy. The news was reported by the newspaper "Domani", which has been following this story for some time. However, there are still three months to complete the 180 days required by law for the collaborator's full confession, even if at the moment the path still seems to be uphill: either the collaboration resumes with momentum or there is a risk of exclusion from the program protection. Meanwhile, the Naples prosecutor's office, led by chief prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, known for his rigorous approach with justice collaborators, maintains great secrecy on the matter.
Conflicts in the Schiavone family
Schiavone's collaboration with the justice system could also be influenced by family events, in particular by the situation of Sandokan's son, Emanuele Libero Schiavone, recently arrested for possession of weapons and for having organized a reprisal for the gunshots shot at his home. A family rift emerged - as reported by "Domani" - thanks to an interception that took place in prison during a conversation between Schiavone and his son Emanuele. “Francesco Schiavone confides to his son that he has started the process of collaboration and invites him to leave Casal di Principe, but receives a sharp refusal from his son who replies rudely: 'You have to make the San Ciprianese laugh, we have to make them laugh. everyone (...) that everything has horns and is horned'. The two argue, the son says one last sentence to him: 'You carry me and your son Ivanhoe (the other unrepentant son, ed.) on your conscience'.”
Sandokan, arrested in 1998, has already in the past expressed the idea of ??collaborating with justice, but the family conflict could continue to weigh on his decisions and his future. The collaboration of the Casalesi boss with the authorities could have significant implications at various levels: sociological, human and judicial. Journalist Rosaria Capacchione also highlighted the importance of this collaboration, which is particularly useful for clarifying the murders of innocent people. However, at least from a judicial point of view, Sandokan's contribution could be limited, since many crimes are now statute-barred.
