Caravan site at the Doolplein. On the left, the Eindhoven Canal with the turning basin.

The former Doolplein on 12 April 1980. The Doolplein was a large caravan site with a dubious reputation. It had the reputation, rightly or wrongly, of being a haven for criminal activities. Several well-known Eindhoven caravan families (travellers) were housed there, including Pruijmboom, Van Veen, Pfaff and Stuiver. Ultimately, this caused the necessary problems, after which the municipality of Eindhoven decided to redistribute the travellers, as caravan dwellers invariably call themselves, over smaller camps, spread across the city.
