Mob guys nickname fellow hoodlums based on just about anything…Blind Frankie, Black Louie, Tony the Dope, Sally the Blond, Cockeyed Nick, and so on. But among the most popular nicknames had to do with animals.

This next challenge involves eight different mafiosi, from eight separate and distinct Cosa Nostra Families sprinkled throughout the United States. Each guy had a nickname related to an animal of some sort.

Your job? — “Should you choose to accept it” — is to identify the true first and last name of each mafiosi, then match the (letter) of their nickname, to the corresponding (number) of the Family or city they were affiliated with.

A) Lupo the Wolf
B) The Frog
C) Charlie the Bear
D) Johnny the Ape
E) Charlie Bats
F) Philly Dogs
G) The Animal
H) Danny the Lion

1) Bonanno
2) Buffalo
3) Chicago
4) Colombo
5) Cleveland
6) Gambino
7) Genovese
8) Lucchese

These three picks were spot on, Butchie.

D-3 for John (Johnny Apes) Monteleone (Chicago)
E-1 for Charles (Charlie Batts) Battaglia (Bonanno)
H-7 for Daniel (Danny The Lion) Leo (Genovese)
-
But "Lupo the Wolf" and "Charlie Bear" were incorrect. Actually they were as follows;

A-2 was Frederico “Lupo the Wolf” Randaccio (Buffalo)
C-8 was Ciro “Charlie the Bear” Giampaolo (Lucchese)

Nonetheless, you're doing very well with this challenge. Bravo!

B-4 was Anthony "Tony the Frog" Frangipani (Colombo)

"The Frog" Frangipani was a Brooklyn-born hood affiliated with the old Colombo Family who, by the early 1960s, had relocated out to Suffolk County and joined the borgata's Long Island faction headed by capo John "Sonny" Franzese.

He generally associated with and was often partnered with Franzese crew member Felice "Philly Cigars" Vizzari in operating bookmaking, card games, and shylock loans.

Only "The Animal" and "Philly Dogs" remind unnamed. Who wants to take a shot at these two?

G-4 was Arthur “Artie the Animal” Introtor (Colombo)

Originally from Brooklyn, Artie Intrator was a tough Jewish hoodlum who became affiliated with the Colombo Family’s “Sonny Franzese Regime” during the early 1960s. A shylock and labor-union goon by trade, Intrator had the well-deserved reputation of a vicious character and merciless moneylender who would assault recalcitrant loan-shark customers at the drop of a hat.

But, around 1970-71, his hot temper and unsavory modus operandi finally caught up with him. One afternoon NYPD officers discovered Intrator’s corpse discarded along the side of a desolate dirt road in Staten Island. An autopsy report later revealed evidence that Intrator had been viciously beaten before he was shot to death….and so ended the saga of “Artie the Animal”

And the last mystery mobster was F-6, who was Gambino soldier Philip “Philly Dogs” Mazzara.

Philly Dogs wraps up this latest challenge
