August 30, 2024

Colombia has extradited 44-year-old Colombian drug suspect Jean-Paul HB, alias “Sodapuppy,” at the request of the Netherlands. The plane carrying the suspect landed in the Netherlands on Friday morning, under escort of the Royal Marechaussee.

Key figure
The Public Prosecution Service sees Jean-Paul HB as a key figure in international drug trafficking. He is also suspected of money laundering. The Colombian was arrested on July 18, 2023 at the request of the Netherlands in Tulua, Colombia. Authorities in four countries worked together to catch him.
The man is suspected of playing an important role in a large international drug and money laundering network.

2.5 tons of crystal meth
The Public Prosecution Service sees him as the contact person between the Netherlands and South America. The Colombian is linked by the Public Prosecution Service to the seizure of 2.5 tons of crystal meth in Rotterdam in 2019. The mega catch was made during a raid on the Schiebroek industrial estate in Rotterdam. The stock was behind a double wall in a hidden space, it is the largest catch ever in Europe.

Mexican drug cartels
The arrest of Jean-Paul HB was a top priority for the international law enforcement agencies, because he is seen as a key figure in the operations of Mexican cartels in the Netherlands and Europe. The Colombian is said to have coordinated cocaine and methamphetamine production in the Netherlands in the service of Mexican drug cartels. He is also linked to the import of large quantities of cocaine and to various drug labs in the Netherlands.

Jean-Paul HB will appear before the examining magistrate in Zwolle next Monday, who will decide whether his pre-trial detention will be extended.
