Although he was a very volatile figure over the years, Northern NJ Genovese Family legend Ruggiero “Richie the Boot” Boiardo died in his own bed.

Another NJ guy was Joe Profaci's son, Colombo Family capo Salvatore J. "Jersey Sal" Profaci. He didn't serve too much time behind bars, made a ton, and died in the comfort of his own palatial home.

One of the most iconic and wealthy mob figures to largely skate from justice --- even though he was deported from the U.S. --- was the legendary Giuseppe "Joe Adonis" Doto.

This man was shipped back to his native Italy, but he lived out the rest of his years in splendor and comfort. Joe was a very successful mafioso, and even more that that, he was an astute guy as far as handling his finances and parlaying his criminal profits into legit business so as to maintain a continuing revenue stream for himself.

I think Joe Adonis is underrated by history in that regard.

One of the sharpest guys around, who served very little time during his lifetime, yet was one of the highest profile and most successful racketeers, was the old Luciano Family capodecina Vincent "Jimmy Blue Eyes" Alo.

Jimmy most certainly died with his shoes off, in the comfort of his own bed.

Another very successful low-key guy who’s rarely talked about, but most certainly died with his shoes off in the comfort of his own bed was Salvatore Falcone.

For many years this man was the acknowledged head of the Mafia in the upstate City of Utica, New York.

Capodecina Salvatore “Don Turiddo” Falcone was a well respected powerhouse. And I don’t think the man every served more than a night behind bars in his whole lifetime.

And after he stepped down from the helm and semi-retired to Miami, Florida his brother Joe Falcone stepped up to become the new head of their faction. Joe enjoyed a similar run.

Francesco “Don Ciccio” Milano, and his brother, Antonino “Tony” Milano, were two early powerhouses who ruled the City of Cleveland, Ohio.

Both died in their bed with their shoes off, and during the noteworthy underworld careers, both men ended up as wildly successful and wealthy leaders who served little, if any, time behind bars.

The only problem with Johnny Simone was that he DID die in the street. He was shot remember? Hardly dying with his shoes off and in the comfort of his own bed.

Pittsburgh’s underboss/acting boss, Michael “Mike” Genovese was another guy he ended up doing pretty good for himself.

If I understand it correctly, he died of natural causes as a free man, not locked up or murdered.

Carlo’s brother, Paul “Don Paolo” Gambino is another mafioso who lived well, made tons, largely avoided trouble with the law, and died peacefully, in his own bed with his shoes off.

Another iconic, old-time leader, was Genovese Family capo Generoso “Toddo Del” Del Duca.

Born in Campania, Italy but based in Brooklyn, before joining the Mafia, Del Duca was a top Camorrista leader. In fact, he is said to have been one of the original "backers" and supporters of Chicago's infamous Al Capone.

Del Duca died comfortably, and mostly anonymously, in the safety of his own home...with his shoes off.

The old Colombo Family consigliere, Salvatore "Sally the Sheik" Mussachio, died fly as a lark, in his own bed.

For that matter, despite over 30 arrests (including a double murder,) and a criminal record spanning over 50 years, Mussachio was never convicted of a serious crime or jailed.

Nicolino “Don Nico” Alfano, one of the more shadowy power figures within the old Joe Bonanno Family, lived to the ripe old age of 98 years old and died in the comfort of his own home with his street shoes off, and his house slippers on. During the course of his lifetime, I don’t even think Alfano served a jail term. (If he did, it was in his youth and it was a short one.)

In that life, THATS called success!
