Worried Red Bull admits: "The situation is starting to get serious" Max Verstappen had to settle for seventh place in qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix. Helmut Marko therefore sounds the alarm and calls the situation 'serious'.
Pepijn van der Hulst Today, 19:30
© XPBimages Red Bull had a dramatic qualifying in Italy. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez were doing well in Q1 and Q2, but at the supreme moment everything went wrong. The balance was gone, resulting in seventh and eighth place. And that while Lando Norris grabbed pole position and thus has a unique opportunity to catch up with Verstappen. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko is therefore sounding the alarm.
"We have to find the moment where we took the wrong turn," Marko told Sky DE . "You have to look at Miami, because then we were still dominant. The races that Max won after that, he won because of his qualities. But with the complexity of these cars it is very difficult. Thank God we have some time towards the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, because now it was practically impossible to implement anything. But the situation is starting to get serious."
Does Red Bull have a problem now that Adrian Newey is leaving? "Newey is no longer fully involved in the process. That is a factor we need to look at, but we have a broad base. It is true that his experience and knowledge could certainly have helped in this situation."
