Benaouf A. will not be going to a lighter prison regime. At the end of August, he demanded in summary proceedings that his status on the so-called GVM list be adjusted. The interim relief judge decided on Friday that A. is inadmissible in his request.

In December 2012, two men were shot dead in Amsterdam's Staatsliedenbuurt. A. managed to escape the shooters just barely, while he was the actual main target.

He was then sentenced to twelve years for complicity in a murder in Antwerp and then another twelve years in the so-called 13Maracane case for participation in a criminal organization, attempted incitement to murder and complicity in preparation of a murder.

In October 2017, an attempt to free him from Roermond prison by helicopter failed.

A. spent several years in the EBI and was eventually allowed to go to the PI in Leeuwarden due to good behavior.

This spring, the prison authorities got the impression that A. was possibly working on another escape. The reason was the delivery of a note on May 30, 2024 at the PI Leeuwarden, by his wife. The note contained congratulations on his marriage. The Justice Department states that it contained "veiled language" and that it came from a criminal connection of A..

He was therefore transferred again to the EBI in Vught.
