I think another top guy who "technically" died while free from jail, but had served many decades in prison over the course of his lifetime, was the infamous Lucchese Family capo and rapacious heroin trafficker, Joseph "Joe Beck" DiPalermo. On that note, I believe that Joe's brother, Charlie DiPalermo, aka; Charlie Brody, falls into the same category. He did a ton of time behind jail...but technically, died while a free man.

Peter Limone did 33 years, got released with a 26 million dollar oops we made a mistake settlement, served as boss for 7yrs, died a free man. Yep, Limone was raked over the coals real good....33 years might as well be a lifetime! And the $26M is great....but I'd rather of let em keep the 26, and not have done the 33.
