Last Wednesday, the Guardia di Finanza arrested two people, while 14 others are under investigation. At the center of the investigation is the figure of Omar Mohamed, 39, born in Crotone and believed to be close to members of the Grande Aracri clan and the Arena-Nicosia 'ndrina , from whom he allegedly received significant sums of money then used in his activities; but the proceeds of the Camorra also arrived in the organization's pockets, through the acquaintances of the other arrested person, Massimo Nicotera, a 50-year-old from Naples , already convicted of mafia-style association with the Veneruso-Rea clan .

They laundered money from 'ndrangheta and camorra, 16 reported
Seizures for 2 million, 2 arrests, searches in Germany

BOLOGNA, 09 OCT - They are accused of laundering proceeds from organised crime into commercial activities.

This is the accusation at the basis of a custodial order issued by the investigating judge of Bologna Domenico Truppa and executed by the Guardia di Finanza against an entrepreneur of Calabrian origin, Omar Mohamed, who has been living in Bologna for some time, and a person of Campanian origin, Massimo Nicotera, believed to be connected to Camorra-style associations.

Seizures for around two million and searches were carried out, including in Germany.
The two are being investigated by the DDA of Bologna (Pm Flavio Lazzarini) on various counts together with 14 others for a series of crimes, some of which were aggravated by the 'mafia method': money laundering, reinvestment of illicit proceeds, usury, extortion, misappropriation of public funds, fraudulent transfer of assets, drug crimes, exploitation of prostitution and attempted kidnapping.
The investigations have allowed us to reconstruct the relational connections from which the Calabrian entrepreneur benefited and how he allegedly received "anomalous financing" over time from criminals believed to be close to the Camorra and 'Ndrangheta. These "loans", sometimes in cash, other times with financial transactions, were then reinvested in the acquisition of companies, real estate and luxury cars. As documented by investigators, the money was then laundered and returned also thanks to local entrepreneurs, with the issuing of invoices for non-existent transactions.

the episode
'Ndrangheta and drug trafficking, “The money mafia” on PresaDiretta
The intertwining of legal and illegal economy, cryptophones and the interview with Gratteri
Published: 10/12/2024

The episode of “PresaDiretta” airing tomorrow at 9:40 p.m. on Rai 3, entitled “The mafia of money”, will deal with organized crime and the intertwining of legal and illegal economies. Drugs and blood, encrypted phones and rivers of money, drug trafficking routes and luxury skyscrapers, even an island in front of Dubai, now seized by the Italian state. The international holding company of organized crime has many unexpected facets. From the Triple Frontera in South America to the financial markets, “PresaDiretta” tells the story of macro-mafias through the stories of two of the world's leading brokers, fugitives for decades and now in Italian prisons: Rocco Morabito, with his mysterious escape from Montevideo prison, and Raffaele Imperiale, with his incalculable wealth . And then the reconstruction of the Scampia feud, where Imperiale's rise to the highest levels of international crime began, his business in Holland and the mafia war that bloodied that country, the possession of two Van Gogh paintings and the exclusive images of the moment when investigators seized the two priceless masterpieces.

Anti-mafia prosecutors, Eureka and cryptophones
It will be a special episode, with the national anti-mafia prosecutor Giovanni Melillo , the public prosecutor at the Court of Naples Nicola Gratteri , the deputy prosecutor of Reggio Calabria Giuseppe Lombardo , the prefect Vittorio Rizzi , the director of the Criminal Police Raffaele Grassi. “Phantom secure”, “Encrochat”, “SkyEcc” are instead the names with which “Aspettando PresaDiretta” opens, in the first part of the evening, from 8:35 pm to around 9:25 pm. They were designed to protect the privacy of managers and VIPs, they have become the most technologically sophisticated communication tool for drug traffickers and mafiosi: they are crypto-cell phones, behind which there are unscrupulous entrepreneurs, the FBI, hackers, European investigators. The decryption of the messages that criminals from all over the planet have exchanged for years will allow hundreds of investigations to be started in the courts. Like “Eureka”, the largest operation ever carried out against the 'Ndrangheta in Europe, which started from the Reggio Calabria Prosecutor's Office and has come to involve seven other European countries, 108 people arrested in Italy alone

A new 'ndrangheta informer is shaking up the criminal dynamics of the city Reggio Calabria. He is Davide Bilardi, 49 years old, considered close to the powerful Tegano clan and arrested in October 2023 during the anti-mafia operation called "Atto Quarto".

'Ndrangheta Spa, the criminal system that has invaded Europe - 10/13/2024
St 2024/2511 min
The checks at the port of Gioia Tauro, the work of anti-mafia journalists, the investigations of the Reggio Calabria Prosecutor's Office. From all this, the same picture emerges: a 'ndrangheta capable of controlling enormous quantities of cocaine, with an ever-increasing movement of capital and an ever-increasing weight in the financial world. As demonstrated by Eureka, the largest operation ever carried out against the 'ndrangheta in Europe: 8 countries involved, over 108 arrests in Italy alone. And as also demonstrated by the value of the drugs passed, according to estimates, in just two years through the Calabrian port: double the Italian government's budget.

hydra investigation
'Ndrangheta, “compare Massimo” and the Lonate-Pozzolo club. «He was dealing with the Barbaros»
The Milan Review Court has ordered the prison measure – for now only virtual – also for Massimo Rosi, born in 1968, considered a "central element" of the 'ndrangheta local in Lombardy
Published: 10/14/2024 – 18:31

MILAN His is one of the most important figures in the entire “Hydra” investigation by the Milan Anti-Mafia District. On the one hand because he is considered «the connecting element between the current Legnano-Lonate Pozzolo premises and the historic one», on the other because his monitoring will give life to an investigative thread that has allowed investigators to document «all the activities aimed at reconstituting the premises themselves and at the affiliation of new associates», as well as the establishment of relationships between the Legnano-Lonate Pozzolo premises and the other mafia components of Sicilian and Roman origin. This is the profile drawn by the prosecution and which concerns Massimo Rosi, born in 1968 in Legnano.

The “arm wrestling” between Dda and GIP
His name is also among the people reached by the precautionary custody order issued by the Review Court of Milan, partially accepting the appeal of the prosecutor Alessandra Cerreti in the investigation into the "Lombardy mafia system" called ' Hydra '. His, like that of 12 other individuals, is considered a "virtual arrest" that will not be carried out until the ruling of the Court of Cassation on the existence of a "horizontal confederate structure" in Lombardy, made up of "members of the three different mafia-style organizations Cosa Nostra, 'Ndrangheta and Camorra". The association "participated (at various levels) by individuals of different mafia origins and with an operational scope is undoubtedly characterized in mafia terms" for the Review Court.

«Massimo appears»
His name is often recurring in the documents of the “Bad Boys” investigation , where he is often referred to as “compare Massimo” and is considered a “significant element of Calabrian drug trafficking in Lombardy”. From the wiretaps of the investigators of the time, “links with other 'ndrangheta-type criminal organizations operating in Lombardy” emerged, the prosecutors report. Massimo Rosi, in fact, has never been convicted of the crime of mafia association but, the prosecutors note, “there are numerous, in the documents, facts and historical circumstances that associate him with the 'ndrangheta and the Legnano and Lonate Pozzolo club”, playing a central role.

De Castro's testimony
Emanuele De Castro spoke about Massimo Rosi , in a testimony dating back to July 9, 2020. De Castro, originally from Palermo but settled in Lonate Pozzolo for several years, «within the Legnano-Lonate Pozzolo club had the role of accounting manager and holder of the “basin”» , the prosecutor notes, before becoming a collaborator of justice. «(…) after the death of Alfonso Murano, the position of company head had initially been temporarily taken by Stefano San Filippo, then they had given it to Massimo Rosi, but Massimo Rosi was not so popular with all the guys…» . And he further explains to the prosecutor: «One of the most powerful was us, there was the Legnano-Lonate Pozzolo club, then there was Cormano, there was Buccinasco, Corsico, these are the most…». In another interrogation in 2019, De Castro explained to the prosecutor: «I met Massimo Rosi around 2000, yes, I think he had just gotten out of prison if I remember correctly. He was an affiliate and Enzo introduced him to me as someone who was already an affiliate, who knew him, I know that he grew up with Enzo, they have known each other for many years, since Massimo was a kid…» «(…) he was the head of the Legnano company for a couple of years, and then I took over as head of the company, we removed him and I was put in…». And again: «He trafficked heavily in drugs with the Barbaros».

The links with other 'ndrine
As reported by the prosecutors, Massimo Rosi was also involved in the investigation “The Hole”, conducted by the third Section of the Investigative Unit of the Carabinieri of Milan, during which «Rosi's relationships with top members of the Barbaro clan, “Castanu” branch , and specifically Domenico and Antonio Barbaro, both with criminal records for drug trafficking association, and with Giuseppe Barbaro, Domenico's father, were certified», the prosecutor notes. The Barbaro “Castanu” 'ndrina is in all respects one of the most important 'ndrina of Platì and is inextricably linked to the 'ndrina Papalia “Carciutu” and Barbaro “Pillaro”. Furthermore, according to the DDA, the affinity with the Pelle “Gambazza” of San Luca and the Mollusos should not be underestimated. (g.curcio@corrierecal.it)

'Ndrangheta, the young Cordì members on trial: the trial with abbreviated procedure on appeal – NAMES
In July 2022 the operation against the group "direct expression of the Cordì clan, from which it borrowed the typical principles of the 'ndrangheta"
Published: 10/14/2024 – 16:36

REGGIO CALABRIA The appeal trial of the abbreviated strand arising from the investigation by the Reggio Calabria DDA “New Generation-Riscatto II” against the young members of the Cordì clan in Locri will begin on Wednesday 16 October. Twenty years each for Riccardo Francesco Cordì, Luca Scaramuzzino, Antonio Aversa and Salvatore Congiusta were the heaviest sentences handed down in the first instance at the end of the closing speech by deputy prosecutors Giovanni Calamita and Diego Capece Minutolo, who requested over 250 years in prison.

READ ALSO: «The typical principles of the 'ndrangheta» assimilated by the young blood of Locri, «direct expression of the Cordì clan»

The investigation
Operation “New Generation-Riscatto II”, which began in July 2022, led to the arrest of 29 people accused, to varying degrees, of mafia-style criminal association, illicit production, trafficking and possession of narcotics, possession of weapons and ammunition, damage, aggravated extortion, trafficking and dealing in counterfeit banknotes. “The point of reference for all the other associates”, the very young Riccardo Francesco Cordì and Luca Scaramuzzino, born in 1996 and 1993 respectively, are those who, according to investigators, “stood out for their authority and operational ability” within the group. The aim, according to what emerged from the investigations, of the clan was twofold: to control, through the young group, the activities carried out on its territory and, at the same time, «to train young people subjected to the criminal authority of the Cordì family from whom they could draw in the future to strengthen the specific organizational chart of the gang» so much so that «even externally the group of boys is considered an offshoot of the Cordì gang». Among them a bond so close as to consider «the principle of mutual aid between the associates absolutely obligatory». ( mr )

Drug trafficking, 'ndrangheta boss Papalia's son arrested
Domenico Papalia involved in an investigation by the prosecutors of Milan Ombra and Lesti. The investigation of the Gico
Published: 10/16/2024 – 19:51

MILAN Domenico Papalia, son of the historic boss of the 'ndrangheta in Lombardy Antonio, has been arrested, with a precautionary custody order in prison, in an investigation by the Milan prosecutors Sara Ombra and Leonardo Lesti, centered on the accusation of association aimed at drug trafficking, in particular cocaine. Investigation conducted by the Gico of the Economic and Financial Police Unit of the Milanese Gdf. In particular, as anticipated online by Corriere della Sera and Fatto Quotidiano and confirmed by qualified sources, in recent days five precautionary measures have been carried out by the Gdf, including that against Domenico Papalia, 41 years old and already involved in other investigations in the past. The name of Domenico Papalia, among other things, appears (but not as a suspect) in the documents of the Milanese investigation into the San Siro curves, which led to 19 arrests more than two weeks ago. In the documents, in fact, it is reported that the AC Milan ultras leader Luca Lucci, who ended up in prison, is “close” to Rosario Calabria, who in turn is linked to Domenico Papalia, “son of Antonio”, who is serving a life sentence and “belongs to the homonymous 'ndrangheta family orbiting in the Milan area (Corsico/Buccinasco)”. In the investigation into drug trafficking from Northern Europe, which involves over 50 suspects, some requests for precautionary measures have been rejected by the investigating judge Anna Calabi, who at the same time has set preventive interrogations for other suspects for the hypothesis of drug dealing – before the decision on the measures – foreseen by the recent reform.

'Ndrangheta, the plan to kill Raffaele Moscato. "If he hadn't repented he would have died"
The collaborator Marziano tells of the intentions of the Piscopisani to kill the repentant even before he started collaborating
Published: 10/16/2024 – 7:00

VIBO VALENTIA A murder plan against Raffaele Moscato , well before the Piscopisani member decided to collaborate with justice. This is what Renato Marziano, another member of the Piscopio clan who decided to collaborate in 2018, says, but whose reports have only been made public now with the Porto Salvo investigation. Among the reasons for his decision, for which Marziano had stated that he "felt betrayed" and no longer believed in the ideals of the 'ndrangheta, was also the decision, endorsed by the clan's leaders, to kill Raffaele Moscato, someone who had "given his life for the Piscopisani, without ever betraying them". A murder plan that, however, never came to fruition, also because of Moscato's decision to repent, a choice that in fact "saved" his life.

Raffaele Moscato – Collaborator of Justice
Moscato's Criminal Rise
The plan, Marziano specifies, would have matured before Moscato's collaboration. So much so that in a joke caught by the collaborator of justice in a conversation, it was said that " it would have been better that he had become a repentant otherwise he would have died ". The authorization for the ambush had also arrived from the clan's top brass, but as for the material executors, Marziano replies, "I don't know who had been designated". The intentions to kill him arose from the fact that Moscato "was disliked because together with Rosario Battaglia and Michele Fiorillo "Zarrillo" they had organized the murder of Pantaleone Mancuso, known as "scarpuni"". A murder that, if carried out, would certainly have allowed Moscato to climb the hierarchy within the 'ndrangheta, raising both his talent and " the respect of the other 'ndrine ". In addition, it would have also allowed him to reach the Società Maggiore and, consequently, "the duty to kill further would have disappeared for him".

pantaloons mancuso
Pantaleone Mancuso “Scarpuni”
The plan to kill “Scarpuni”
Reasons why Moscato would have been “unpopular” within the gang itself. First of all, by the alleged boss Nazzareno Fiorillo, also against the death of “Scarpuni” because he was “well aware of the fact that this would have opened a further front beyond the one that was in place with the Patanias”. Fiorillo would not have appreciated the criminal rise of Moscato, who would have thus “ overtaken in criminal consideration ” Fiorillo himself. The latter, as Marziano says, “could not put his veil on the project because it was also promoted by Michele Fiorillo “Zarrillo” who is still the one who had been invested as head of the company”. The Fiarès would also have intervened, in vain, to try to make the young Piscopisans desist from the murder of “Scarpuni”. The ambush, however, would have failed because, despite the stakeout already prepared, “Mancuso had not passed by where they presumed”. Since the murder of “Scarpuni” had failed, the plan to kill Moscato would have also stopped, also due to his subsequent collaboration. ( Ma.Ru. )

Intercepted, a drug dealer clearly explains: “I’ll traffic until I breathe ” and adds: “ If I can, I’ll run away or run them over”. The words translate two things: the risk of repeating the crime and the danger of escape . Two elements that are enough for an arrest. And yet nothing. The investigating judge of Milan orders preventive questioning for him and five other traffickers in line with the new Nordio law . Very clear links with the ‘ndrangheta will then emerge . But nothing. The drug dealers will be questioned when they are free. It’s the first time in Italy . But let’s go in order.

Fifty-five suspects , four criminal associations identified, two aimed at international drug trafficking, two for tax crimes . It is a shocking photograph of the current capacity ofthe 'ndrangheta to manage drug trafficking in Lombardy , the one taken by the maxi-investigation of the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office and the Gico-Goa of the Guardia di Finanza. And yet, in the face of all this, only five have been arrested in prison.

Women and 'ndrangheta, Frustaci: «Today they are increasingly top figures in the clans»
The PM of the DDA: «We are witnessing an epochal change, but when they collaborate with justice they do so with more determination»
Published: 10/19/2024 – 14:29

VIBO VALENTIA Women and children who rebel against the 'ndrangheta. But also an increasing number of women who play an active role in organized crime, as demonstrated by the various convictions in the latest trials against female subjects. The prosecutor Annamaria Frustaci, guest this morning on the panel of Contromafiecorruzione of Libera in Vibo Valentia, talks about the evolution of the role of the woman of the 'ndrangheta. Figures subjected to the patriarchal and oppressive mentality of the 'ndrangheta, but now also participants in illegal activities. "We are currently witnessing an important change" explains the prosecutor to Corriere della Calabria. "Both in the district of Reggio and in that of Catanzaro there are increasingly more female figures definitively convicted, there are prisoners under the 41bis regime"

«Women take on the role of chief promoters»
"Today women take on the role of chief promoters within mafia organizations." The prosecutor cites the example of Aurora Spanò, a member of the Bellocco clan sentenced to 25 years in prison. "Even within the 'ndrangheta, historically family-based, the role of women has evolved. Today it is certainly more active." No longer figures who limit themselves to the mere execution of tasks or illicit activities, but real minds and active subjects within the 'ndrine. Also because of the judicial events that "decapitate" the clans, with women thus becoming apical figures within the clans. "If before they were only subjects capable of educating and passing on mafia values, today they also become active subjects in the management of mafia assets, in laundering illicit proceeds, they become central figures of the 'ndrina. For too long the role of women in the 'ndrangheta has been underestimated."

«More determination from women when they choose to collaborate»
But that "rebellion" can also start from women: "It is a revolution both negatively and positively" adds Frustaci. " We are also talking about figures who choose to undertake with determination the path of collaborating with justice ". But "cutting and severing contacts with the family network of belonging is not easy. It takes a lot of courage". For the PM it is therefore necessary to implement the support service for collaborators of justice, not abandon them but follow them on a difficult path. "To change the rules of the game we must not only intervene at a cultural level, but we must provide opportunities in these territories. It does not only take the State, but also the network of local authorities that create serious opportunities for those who want to stay in this territory, create training to be able to aspire to a dignified job". Therefore make the path of collaboration " an attractive, convenient and sustainable choice. We must put ourselves in the shoes of those who must buy this step". ( Ma.Ru. )

Giuseppe Pino Romano, the 'ndrangheta boss who was the reference point for Brescia and Bergamo, has died

Giuseppe Pino Romano , a boss linked to the 'ndrangheta and a point of reference between the provinces of Brescia and Bergamo, has died at the age of 65. He was struck down by a heart attack. Originally from Briatico in the province of Vibo Valentia , he had been living in Romano di Lombardia for years and was finishing serving a sentence for extortion.

The funeral will be held on Monday in the same town in the Bergamo area, where a police service has already been alerted due to the arrival from Calabria of members of the Romano family. Pino Romano was one of the leading names in the 'Shark' investigation by the Brescia anti-mafia district attorney's office.
Romano was arrested in 2005, then sentenced in the first instance in Bergamo to 26 years for mafia-style association in the 'Nduja trial for extortion, weapons, drugs, usury. In 2014 the final sentence to 7 years, 8 months and 20 days.

Italian crime fighter: 'Mafia launders money through pizzerias in the Netherlands'
By Maarten Veeger and Koen Voskuil ·8 hours ago· Amended: 8 hours ago

The Italian mafia does not only come to the Netherlands for drug trafficking, but also to launder money. This happens - classically enough - regularly via Italian restaurants, says the influential Italian mafia fighter Nicola Gratteri in an interview with RTL Nieuws.

In the Netherlands, the mafia likes to invest its criminal money in Italian restaurants and hotels, says Gratteri. "Some owners have official hospitality training and have all the papers. But in reality, they are money launderers. I don't want to criminalize Italian restaurants, because there are many hard-working entrepreneurs who have nothing to do with crime. But there are also members of the 'Ndrangheta (South Italian mafia) among them."

Gratteri has been chief prosecutor in Naples since last year. Before that, he worked in southern Italy for more than twenty years. He experiences the dangers of organized crime first-hand. After several failed attempts on his life, he travels in bullet- and bomb-proof cars. Wherever he goes, he is surrounded by bodyguards.

Heavily armed soldiers are standing in front of the courthouse in Naples, where the interview takes place.

Neapolitan chief prosecutor Nicola Gratteri is calling for longer prison sentences for drug criminals in the Netherlands.
Since the 1990s, Nicola Gratteri has been trying to convince the Netherlands of the danger of the Italian mafia. For a long time, he felt that his advice was ignored. "I told judges and officers: listen, the 'Ndrangheta is active in the Netherlands. But politics did not see the problem. That is why there was a lack of instruments to combat the mafia."

In recent years, Gratteri has noticed more urgency among his colleagues in the Netherlands. "They have discovered that the situation is no longer under control after the murder of the family of a key witness, a lawyer and a journalist. Last year, the then Dutch Minister of Justice and Security (Dilan Ye?ilgöz, ed.) visited Italy to learn from us and copy bits from Italian legislation. I hope that Dutch politics will take action and create a system that fits the criminal reality of today."

Mafia deaths
While there has been a lot of violence in the Netherlands in recent years, the mafia in Italy is operating more and more quietly. "The mafia hardly commits any murders anymore. Today, more women are killed at home by their husbands than there are mafia deaths. The mafia no longer has to shoot. Just knowing that someone is a member of the mafia is intimidating."

But that silence doesn't make the organization any less dangerous, Gratteri warns. "Don't forget that the mafia does more than sell coke. Many politicians collaborate with the mafia in exchange for votes, money, favors. There is no longer any need to threaten people by using violence, shooting at roller shutters and setting cars on fire. As a result, the public does not see the danger. People underestimate the problem."

Characteristic apartment buildings in the Scampia district of Naples, where the local mafia Camorra was based for many years.

Gratteri believes that countries like the Netherlands should do more to combat crime. "Everyone says they are worried, and everyone says they don't want a mafia in Europe. But in reality, they don't have the strength or the will to make serious and tough laws so that crime no longer pays."

What is lacking in the Netherlands is the legislation, he says. "First you have to increase the sentences. Because if you have 10 kilos of cocaine in the Netherlands, you get off with 2 to 3 years in prison. That makes the risk very low. In Italy, the prison sentence for drug trafficking is between 20 and 30 years. Then you have a completely different perspective."

Gratteri also points to the broader possibilities for confiscating money and goods in Italy. "If you cannot explain a certain asset, in a legal way, then I confiscate it. It could be a Ferrari, a gold watch, a boat. In doing so, you also implement preventive measures. These are the first two things I think of."

Influencing opinion
The seasoned mafia fighter hopes that Dutch politics will take more steps to effectively tackle organised crime. "If we continue like this, the presence of the mafia in Europe will continue to grow. Then the mafia will penetrate further and further, with control over larger parts of the economy. And that is how the dirty money from crime enters the legal economy. And in the future you can also buy up TV stations and newspapers, which influence public opinion. That is how it happened in Italy and it can also happen in Europe."

My friend said the Italian mafia hang out at nearly every pub.

Aren't they active in Aberdeen, or were at some point?

“offshoot” process
'Ndrangheta, from a “closed circle” to dialogue with politics. «The gift of the “saint” has strengthened it»
Consolato Villani's story: from the Fava and Garofalo murders to the evolution of the criminal organization: «This is how it managed to expand»
Published: 20/10/2024 – 7:06

ROME Affiliations and skills, ironclad rules that have changed to allow the 'ndrangheta to communicate and do business with the deviant and corrupt apparatuses of the State. "What changed everything was the passage that allowed the attribution of the "saint"". This was stated by the collaborator of justice Consolato Villani , born in '76, belonging to the Lo Giudice family from Reggio, during the "Propaggine" trial that is being held in Rome, resulting from the operation that shed light on the interests of the 'ndrangheta in the Capital and which sees exponents of the Alvaro clan in the dock.

Villani's story: the murders of the carabinieri Fava and Garofalo, the affiliation and the "saint"
Answering questions from the public prosecutor Giovanni Musarò, Villani, in prison with a definitive sentence for the murders of the carabinieri Antonino Fava and Vincenzo Garofalo in 1994, stated: «I participated in those murders when I was still a minor and I was locked up in the juvenile prison in Catanzaro. I kept quiet because I was brainwashed, the rule was to keep quiet, not to be a scoundrel and do prison ». And on his family of origin, the Lo Giudice, one of the most influential in Reggio Calabria, Villani explained: «I was born into a family of 'ndrangheta. I was the 'ndrangheta , I grew up in a family of 'ndrangheta, I was raised with the rules and with the indoctrination typical of 'ndrangheta families and I moved under the protective wing of my family». The crimes committed, and a silence in prison, allowed him to make a “career” in the criminal field: « Those actions gave me a boost to reach elevated qualities» , explained Villani, who reached the dowry of “santista”. «My affiliation – he said – occurred under the pressure of Giovanni Chilà and Bruno Stilo, also belonging to the Lo Giudice family. But my life changed completely from the “santa” onwards ». And answering a question from the prosecutor, Villani explained the concept of “copiata”: «It is an identity card of the 'ndrangheta , the three names – of the heads of the three mandates (ionic, tirrenico and centro) that decide on that dowry».

The Evolution of the 'Ndrangheta with the Gift of the “Saint”
A gift, that of the “santista” established within the criminal organization at a very specific time. As regards the structure of the 'ndrangheta and the gifts that form the minor society and the major society, in fact, the collaborator spoke of an evolution, which occurred around the '70s: « When Paolo De Stefano created this gift, the saint, the 'ndrangheta grew , because it allowed it to come into contact with the institutions. Before, the 'ndrangheta could not enter into these things. The “saint” – said Villani – is the gift that ruined the iron rules of the 'ndrangheta. Before, nothing came out of that closed circle. Afterwards, with the saint, we were put in the position of being able to dialogue with institutional apparatuses, deviant secret services, corrupt policemen and carabinieri, with magistrates, who represented the State and who were supposed to be against the 'ndrangheta. An evolution through which « the 'ndrangheta has strengthened itself greatly: managing to dialogue with politics and thanks to politics, and partly to Freemasonry, it has managed to expand both in Italy and abroad ». the story
'Ndrangheta, the plan to kill a carabiniere in Briatico. «He was a nuisance»
In the bunker courtroom, collaborator Antonio Accorinti illustrated the plan devised to eliminate the soldier but no longer carried out. «He was doing underwater fishing»
Published: 2024-10-23 – 7:04

LAMEZIA TERME «He was one of the Carabinieri on duty in Briatico, he carried out his work methodically, he was a nuisance. I had a disagreement with him in the sense that I had a proceeding for contempt against him». «He was on duty in Briatico and it was his habit to go spearfishing. I don't remember the year, but there had been a plan for an “approach” to kill him».

The hearing
This was stated in the bunker courtroom in Lamezia Terme by the collaborator of justice Antonio Accorinti, heard during the “Maestrale” trial before the judges of the Court of Vibo Valentia. He is one of the last 'ndrangheta informants from the Vibo Valentia area, born in 1980, son of the alleged boss Antonino. The beginning of his collaboration dates back to June 2023 and his statements had already been acquired in the “Imponimento” trial born from the investigation of the Catanzaro Anti-Mafia District, whose first degree trial ended last June with the acquittal of the Stillitani brothers and the thirty years inflicted on Tommaso Anello .

«He was spearfishing»
When the DDA prosecutor Andrea Buzzelli asks the informer what this intention consisted of, Accorinti explains and points the finger at some individuals already known in the panorama of organized crime in Vibo Valentia: «We talked about it. I went on excursions along the coast with the dinghy, we were with Gregorio Niglia, Simone Melluso and Antonino Tedesco and I saw him often». And again: «He used to park his car in a lay-by along a road to go to Marina di Briatico. So you always saw this car there and you could see that it was him who was underwater fishing» . In his story in court, Accorinti explains: «I met him on the stretch I was taking to go on these excursions along the coast, doing my coastal navigation I saw him underwater fishing». So «there was an approach by Niglia with me, Melluso and Tedesco because, seeing him there like that, it was an opportunity to be able to take him out».

«German had to kill him»
According to what the informer reported in court, there was also a sort of plan ready to kill the carabiniere from Briatico. "Gregorio Niglia had this idea," Accorinti said. "And he says: 'when he goes underwater fishing you meet him with the dinghy', and since Tedesco also went underwater fishing, he says 'we'll intercept him there in that way'." Also because, as the collaborator of justice also said, the place chosen was sufficiently isolated, difficult to reach for ordinary swimmers, not a frequented place. The ideal place, therefore, to kill the soldier. The informer Accorinti also explained to the prosecutor Buzzelli the division of tasks. "Tedesco was supposed to kill him while he was diving because he did it too. I, then, passing by with the dinghy, was supposed to pick up the body and take it out of the water." But then the plan did not materialize because "thinking about it, I already had a proceeding underway with him for a dispute. So I opposed it because otherwise it would have been too easy to trace it back to me, and attention would certainly have fallen on me". ( g.curcio@corrierecal.it )

The decision after the investigation into the infiltration of the gangs in the construction activities

TURIN The general secretary of the national Filca-Cisl, Enzo Pelle, is the regent of the Filca-Cisl of Turin. The general council of the category, which met in the Piedmontese capital, requested the regency of the federation of builders, provided for by article 38 of the Filca Statute. Following this request, the general secretary Pelle has assumed responsibility for leading the Turin structure. The decision comes after the legal case involving one of the managers of the provincial Filca in the context of the Factotum operation on the infiltration of the 'ndrangheta in construction activities in the Turin area. Pelle, 61, originally from Gerace , in the province of Reggio Calabria, is married and has two children. He graduated from the University of Bologna in Economics and Commerce. He began his career in Cisl with training and then managing the accounting of some Calabrian structures of Filca, and has held positions in the Ial and the Caf. He was the director of the Reggio Calabria Building School. In 2003 he was elected general secretary of Filca Cosenza, after only two years of Filca Calabria and in 2009 he entered the national secretariat of the union, where in recent years he has held the role of deputy general secretary.
