VIBO VALENTIA «I don't come from a rich family, my father was a Telecom employee and my mother was a housewife. We moved to Pizzo from Catanzaro because of my father's job when I was about 5 years old. Around 14 I started hanging out with guys with whom I committed petty crimes, thefts of bicycles, scooters, damage and other types of minor crimes». «At the time, my friends and I recognized the figure of Manco, he was a charismatic individual who, on behalf of the Mancusos, commanded Pizzo, Pizzo Marina and "the national team" and we, in exchange for 5 or 10 thousand lire, played pranks on people». This is the story of Renato Marziano, born in Vibo Valentia in 1967, a collaborator of justice whose name is present in the conclusion of the investigations of the "Portosalvo" inquiry of the Catanzaro District Anti-Mafia.

The interrogation
In the interrogation given on July 9, 2024, given to the prosecutors of the Catanzaro DDA Andrea Giuseppe Buzzelli, Marziano (assisted by the lawyer Caterina De Luca) recounts his criminal “career”, retracing the beginnings, the 80s. «I refer to facts that occurred when I was about 14-15 years old» says Marziano and «I specify that with this money I was able to make a contribution to the house, which made me feel grown up, without fully realizing the gravity of what I was doing». «The role played by this Manco, on behalf of the Mancusos, was told to me by his son Massimo , who had received the dowry of the Camorrista, visible from the points tattooed on the palm of his hand, while his father I remember having tattooed on his left arm the ace of clubs, on his right the ace of spades which indicated a high dowry. I would like to point out that at the time the 'ndrangheta calibre and the crimes were highlighted by means of tattoos."

Meetings in the juvenile prison
Renato Marziano 's story continues by illustrating further details. The collaborator of justice, in an ideal path, therefore reconstructs the "genesis" of organized crime in Vibo Valentia, citing names and characters whose specific weight will be measured in the years to come. "Once arrested and entered the juvenile prison, my real criminal career began . There I met all the major exponents of what would later become the Vibo Valentia crime, among which I remember people of the caliber of Leone Soriano, Roberto Soriano, Nazzareno Castagna, Salvatore Lopreiato, Demetrio Amendola, Francesco Pezzulli, Francesco Lenti, Salvatore Dragone, Mario Aloi, Adolfo Emanuele, Bruno's cousin and arrested with Mario Aloi, called "mezzano finger", for a murder committed in the Serre woods. I also remember Giacinto Fusto, a man from Lamezia Terme, with whom I later began to have relationships related to cocaine trafficking, belonging to the Molinaro clan. I also met several gypsies and many other people that I won't list here now."

The meeting with Gaetano Comito
"After a period of imprisonment, from 15 to 18, at around 18 and a half I was placed under house arrest, with permission to go to work at a body shop located on the Pizzo national road," Marziano continues. "Here," he explains, "I met Gaetano Comito with whom I became very good friends and who I also started to hang out with in the evenings; I remember that I even gave him a giant Great Dane. This Comito, at a certain point, opened a shop selling scales, slicers, refrigerated counters and other things and we began to commit a series of scams together, consisting of ordering goods that we then paid for with stolen checks, or with checks without cover." "I was in charge of placing the orders," the informer said, "and once the goods arrived, he couldn't be found and I, with checkbooks that he procured for me, signed these uncovered securities in his place, on which I indicated fictitious names."
