"Today women take on the role of chief promoters within mafia organizations." The prosecutor cites the example of Aurora Spanò, a member of the Bellocco clan sentenced to 25 years in prison. "Even within the 'ndrangheta, historically family-based, the role of women has evolved. Today it is certainly more active." No longer figures who limit themselves to the mere execution of tasks or illicit activities, but real minds and active subjects within the 'ndrine. "If before they were only subjects capable of educating and passing on mafia values, today they also become active subjects in the management of mafia assets, in laundering illicit proceeds, they become central figures of the 'ndrina. For too long the role of women in the 'ndrangheta has been underestimated."
