'Fugitive Marco Ebben killed in cartel violence in Mexico'
The 31-year-old fugitive Schiedam criminal Marco Ebben is said to have died in a shootout between rival Mexican drug cartels. His death is reported by, among others, the Amsterdam rapper Djaga Djaga, who is himself serving an eighteen-year prison sentence for involvement in a liquidation.

Last week, De Telegraaf reported, based on several tipsters, that Ebben was in Culiacán in September, the capital of the Mexican state of Sinaloa, where a fierce war is going on between the government and the Sinaloa cartel. Marco Ebben is said to be a member of an armed group of fifty men in Mexico who carry out violent tasks for the cartel.

Deadly shooting
Last month, Ebben was reportedly shot at in a shooting while driving an armored BMW M6. The bullets went straight through the vehicle, killing the driver of the car. De Telegraaf already reported that Ebben may have died in that shooting, because his family and friends had not heard from him for almost a month. There were also rumors about a "disappearing act" to stay under the radar.

'Rest in peace warrior'
Ebben's death is reported Monday evening by rapper Djaga Djaga (Jason L.) on social media. 'Rest in peace warrior, Marco Ebben', he writes. Djaga Djaga himself is serving an eighteen-year prison sentence for involvement in a liquidation in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. Other prominent figures from Djaga Djaga's entourage also post a "RIP post" on social media.

Ebben himself was previously seen in a photo with a firearm, standing among heavily armed men, one of whom is holding up a T-shirt next to him with the text: 'Free Djaga Djaga'. The text 'Djaga Djaga' was engraved on one pistol.

“El Mayo”
According to De Telegraaf, Ebben is said to have had close ties with the son of former Sinaloa drug lord Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada García. The latter was arrested last summer at an airport near El Paso in the United States.

In June, Ebben was shot during a chase in Turkey. He was seriously injured .
In the northwest of Mexico, in the state of Sinaloa, a bloody battle is raging between two factions in the Sinaloa cartel, after the kidnapping this summer of “El Mayo” Zambada to the United States.
