Personally I think that crew's impact would be overstated. They were just a handful of guys. Yes they were killers and they were dangerous but all the families had armies of killers at that time. There was no shortage of shooters in NY in the 80s.

Besides, most of the people that crew killed were lured into their social club on some pretense and killed on the sneak. You can do that to someone who's clueless but you can't do that in a war with other crews.

I would strongly doubt DeMeo would turn. Probably Castellano hearing rumours that he would be expelled for allowing a Gambino crew involved in murder, sometimes murder with little reason, and drugs, expelled from the Commission and as a message to other members less brave and resilient than Roy.

The Gambinos had a strong alliance with the Genoveses before Castellano killing and for sure doesnt risk to be expelled by the Commission.

DeMeo and his crew were quite big in the racket during the 70s, the same time when the Outfit was THE prime family involved in the same scheme on international level....

There is no way and no evidence of that many killed by his crew, except kooks who make up their own online charts and lists. There is also no evidence at all of Castellano or anyone in the administration ordering or giving the go ahead on those killings.

Note: Guglielmo present during Federal search executed on apartment behind Gemini Lounge. Disappeared following day. Believed murdered, although as late as mid-1990s still officially carried as fugitive.
By 1990 the NYPD cleared sixty-nine cases as crew related murders. Total victim estimates range from seventy-five to well over one hundred.

Btw, the crew's murder list (around 70 hits) from the 70s and early 80s (if true) is quite close to all of the hits in Chicago from the same time period which was way over 100 mob related murders but it were done by a whole family, not just one crew.

And how is killing Roy good publicity. I imagine there would of been numerous investigations targeted Roy, and after he was killed his crew were on the spotlight investigation wise, just assumptions by my part.
