PALM BEACH - NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte traveled to Florida on Friday for a meeting with US President-elect Donald Trump, a spokesman confirmed. They reportedly discussed "global security issues facing the alliance."

On Friday, insiders reported that Rutte had taken the Dutch government plane to Florida after reporting by De Telegraaf. NATO often rents planes from member states of the military alliance for travel.

The two spoke in Palm Beach, where Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate is located. The Republican is critical of NATO and even threatened to withdraw the United States from the alliance during his first term. He considers it unfair that the Americans pay much more for defense than other countries.
