Drugs from Spain, 16 arrests throughout Italy

The investigation shed light on the existence of two distinct criminal groups active in drug trafficking, one of which, rooted in the province of Turin, had ongoing relationships with Spanish drug traffickers, from whom it obtained supplies. The narcotics entered our country through the border crossings of Ventimiglia and Piedmont.

The second criminal gang was composed mainly of people living in Liguria, many of whom, including its leader, were collaborators of justice or their relatives.

By delegation of the DDA of the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office, since the first light of dawn, the Carabinieri of the Ostia Group are executing an order, issued by the investigating judge of the Rome Tribunal, which orders the arrest of 20 people, all seriously suspected, to varying degrees, of criminal association aimed at drug trafficking, possession, dealing and international drug trafficking.

The investigations of the Carabinieri that began after the arrest of Claudio Corelli, found in possession of 220 g of cocaine, brother of Paolo Corelli, murdered on 14 February 2022 in Acilia, have allowed them to collect serious circumstantial evidence regarding the existence of a criminal organization dedicated to the importation of large quantities of cocaine from Holland to the capital for a turnover of millions of euros.

The operational methods of the criminal association have thus been reconstructed in detail, which would have guaranteed the distribution of drugs on a large scale throughout Lazio and even in other Italian regions, using extremely sophisticated supply methods to evade the controls of the police.

During the investigation, the Ostia Carabinieri arrested 9 people in flagrante delicto, seized over 32 kg of cocaine, with a value of approximately 1.5 million euros, as well as 174,000 euros in cash, believed to be the proceeds of illegal activities.

Colombian Navy Discovers New Australian Drug Trafficking Route After Seizing 225 Tons of Cocaine
The Colombian Navy has seized 225,000 kilos of cocaine in a six-week operation, saying it has discovered a new drug trafficking route from South America across the Pacific Ocean to Australia. Some of the drugs were shipped in narco-submarines.

During the international anti-drug operation Orion, 225 tons of cocaine were seized in a period of six weeks. In the final phase of the operation, more than 1,400 tons of drugs were seized, including 128 tons of marijuana.

62 countries
In October and November, according to various international media, more than 400 suspects were arrested during the operation between 62 countries, which targeted oceans, coasts, rivers and ports around the world. The operation also involved the national security services of the United States, Brazil, Spain and the Netherlands, in cooperation with other international organizations.

Long distances
Also seized was a wood and fiberglass semi-submarine en route to Australia carrying five tons of Colombian cocaine. This was the third narco-submarine discovered in the Pacific. Colombian authorities say these semi-submarines are opening up a new smuggling route across the Pacific. The advanced boats can travel about 10,000 miles without refueling.
