Why is Israel turning an unlikely bedfellow in Syria, into a new enemy?

As Syrians expressed obvious relief at the end of 54 years of one of the most brutal dictatorships of modern times, their neighbor Israel reacted in a very different way:
1. a campaign of saturation bombing, launching an estimated 480 strikes in 48 hours.
2. At the same time, Israeli soldiers moved into Syria to seize a significant swathe of land,
3. extending what had been a buffer zone between the two countries.

The scale of Israel's bombing raises the question of how, longer-term, Israel sees its place in its neighborhood.
It led to many in the Arab world condemning Israel, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Qatar.

1. Israel had wanted to see the end of the Assad regime.
2. In this sense, they shared an ambition with an unlikely bedfellow — Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)

Not Quite…The toppling of Assad's regime in Syria may be bad news for Israel
