. Absolutely NYMafia! I’ve heard of his name since I was young from my relatives who were in LE. He was really respected by his fellow officers all over NY and even out of state

He was a jerk and a clown, who got no respect from others in law enforcement.

I tend to agree with your opinion. To my knowledge, Remo was taken seriously and respected as a cop by his fellow members in law enforcement as well as officials of NYC Government.

Among his other accomplishments, Franceschini was elevated to the rank of Lieutenant and placed in charge of the Detective Squad for Queens County, becoming the commanding officer over the District Attorney's personal detective squad.

You don't get a lofty appointment like that unless you are viewed as a respected and capable individual by your superiors.

Previous to this, as a young man he had served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1957. Thereafter, he joined the NYPD in 1957 and served with distinction as an officer for over 35 years. During this time he earned the heroic Combat Cross for Valour in 1961. After retiring from the force he penned a biography about his life and career.

So yeah, I'd say he was a well respected guy.

In fact, to my memory, Remo was acknowledged as one of the most well known authorities on organized crime in NYC for quite a number of years. Especially concerning Queens and Kings Counties.

That is one of the better mob books.

What about the cop called McCabe ( Doug? John? ????).
Must be a 1970s - 1980s. NYPD era. Probably the cop name that comes up more than any other.

I'm sure in the Gaspipe book, Casso named him as dodgy when he was spilling his guts to the feds.

But never read that any where else. When he does get mentioned it's always for ' harassing ' mob guy's with surveillance, knocking on doors etc.

Any info?

. Yes Matter of Honor is one of the better mob related books out there from a different perspective. Remo was a good guy and cop for sure
