Nice to see he was respected by both Democrats and Republicans. He had to deal with kind of the same problems the incoming President has to deal with.

James Earl Carter Jr. was born in 1924 in the small town of Plains: his father was a peanut farm owner, his mother a nurse who had challenged racial segregation to help black women. In 1941 Jimmy was the first in his paternal family to graduate from high school: he went to an all-white school, but his two best friends were African-American.

President James Earl "Jimmy" Carter graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946 with distinction.
