'Ndrangheta, Rosario Barbaro's step back: «I am no longer a collaborator of justice»

LAMEZIA TERME «I wish to communicate that I am no longer a collaborator of justice». This is the surprise announcement by Rosario Barbaro (class of '72) entrusted to a manuscript released by his lawyer. A piece of news destined to shake up the criminal circles linked to the Calabrian 'ndrangheta. Barbaro, in fact, is believed to be a member of the Papalia clan, the most powerful gang active in northern Italy, originally from Platì and linked to the Barbaro family. His collaboration began in June 2021 with the DDA of Milan , the prosecutors Stefano Ammendola and Paolo Storari, coordinated by the additional Alessandra Dolci. Rosario Barbaro, moreover, is married to Serafina Papalia, daughter of the superboss Rocco Papalia , now free after almost 30 years in prison and resident in Buccinasco, the "Platì of the north". In the first reports, the class of '72 known as "Rosi" had spoken of his relationships with the Maiolo family. «Until my imprisonment I had the dowry of picciotto inside the 'Ndrangheta club of Corsico-Buccinasco. The 'Ndrangheta club was blocked because there had been some problems in Calabria. When I got out of prison I committed some crimes but not necessarily linked to my inclusion in the aforementioned club. In Calabria there had been the disappearance of Pasqualino Marando and the two Trimboli, our fellow villagers, reason for which everyone tried to remain more private, also fearing possible reprisals as they could imagine alliances that did not correspond to the truth (…)». After almost 4 years, therefore, the about-face for «reasons and reasons – he writes – that at the moment I do not intend to explain and which I will reserve the right to go into later».
