'Ndrangheta in Gioia Tauro: the «postdated checks» and the fall after the Molè murder. The repentant: «The Stanganellis have been ousted from business»
In Piana the contrasts with the Piromalli and the balances after the death of the boss. The story: «They no longer had criminal weight»
Published: 01/08/2025 – 7:00

GIOIA TAURO After the death of Rocco Molè, the Stanganellis «used this methodology to make money because they had been excluded by the Piromallis from all the criminal activities that were there , from what I knew, because I was inside there when I frequented Gioia Tauro». This is what the collaborator of justice Domenico Ficarra, known as “Corona”, born in 1984 , says, answering the questions of the magistrates of the DDA of Reggio Calabria in reference to the business carried out by the Stanganellis and the criminal balances in the Piana di Gioia Tauro after the killing of the 'ndrangheta boss Rocco Molè on February 1, 2008. The collaborator of justice, who defined himself as «always at the disposal of the Molè family», on the figure of Rocco Molè senior, said that «he was a freemason, he was a high-level person» . An all-round power, however, destined to end.

The affair of the post-dated checks
" The Stanganellis worked with post-dated checks : they had entrepreneurs change them and then let them go bad. This method of obtaining funds worked until Rocco Molè senior was alive and also for a period after his death. Then when the Stanganellis were also distanced from the Molès, their criminal influence had diminished and even the check business , even though they continued it, was no longer going well ." The collaborator of justice recounts the modus operandi used by the family linked to the Molès, stating that the Stanganellis, after the death of the boss in 2008, were "put aside" both by the Piromallis and by "the Molès themselves." And the business of the checks is illustrated as follows: «These checks were taken to the entrepreneurs…» «They went to change the checks… post-dated, that is with the date, one month, two months… Then they never paid them and they went up in smoke because the checks weren’t even his, they borrowed them from other people». According to Ficarra, the person acting on behalf of the Stanganellis was Domenico Iaropoli, «sent» by Antonio and Domenico Stanganelli. «It’s not something I knew about, – explains Ficarra – it’s something I experienced there, I saw it, even sometimes we were sitting there in the countryside, in the farmhouse and he would send him: “Domenico go., go to this guy and have this check changed”».

Internal conflicts, the death of the boss and the exclusion from business
"After Rocco Molè's death, they had a lot of meetings at the Stanganellis' house," says the collaborator of justice, who also spoke of internal conflicts: "Even before Rocco Molè's death, the relationship between Domenico Stanganelli and Rocco himself was conflictual or rather there were frictions due to the fact that Domenico Stanganelli had become unreliable ." "In any case," he adds, "during the detention of Mommo, Rocco senior and Mico Molè, Domenico Stanganelli was the regent of the gang . Once Rocco was released from prison, Domenico Stanganelli's power was over and he suffered from this situation." But after the assassination of the boss, it was Domenico Stanganelli who went to the Piromallis "to ask for an answer, to have an answer about who had killed his uncle." "He was the one who went," adds Ficarra, "because after Rocco Molè's death, he took over , I know these things because I was there, in the sense of what I saw, eh." And Stanganelli in particular, Ficarra explains further, urged by the public prosecutor, went «to Don Nino and Don Gioacchino Piromalli, the old ones… ».
But the Stanganellis «with the passing of time, since certain episodes occurred, they were devalued and put aside», explains the collaborator of justice, adding that they were «put aside» both by the Piromallis and by the «Molès themselves»: «They no longer had criminal weight» .

'Ndrangheta, fugitive Gaetano Emanuele has turned himself in
The man was the recipient of a prison order for the “Habanero” investigation by the Catanzaro DDA
Published: 01/08/2025 – 17:19

VIBO VALENTIA Gaetano Emanuele has decided to turn himself in. After being on the run for 6 and a half months (since June 21, 2024), the man, born in 1975, considered the “regent” of the gang by virtue of his role as lieutenant in the absence of his brother Bruno, the real boss of the 'ndrangheta gang of the same name, went to the Carabinieri of the Soriano Station, in the Vibo Valentia area.
Gaetano Emanuele, in fact, had received an order of imprisonment signed by the investigating judge of the Court of Vibo Valentia, following the “Habanero” blitz of the Catanzaro Anti-Mafia District. However, at the time of the notification of the arrest, Emanuele was not there, causing him to disappear for exactly six months.
The precautionary custody measure against Gaetano Emanuele had been cancelled following a long tug-of-war between the prosecution, the defense and the judges .

The investigation
Gaetano Emanuele – assisted by lawyers Giuseppe Di Renzo and Alessandro Diddi – is being investigated for the murders of Francesco Gallace, Giovanni Gallace and Stefano Barillaro and for the attempted murder of Ilario Antonio Chiera, crimes committed on 25 October 2003, using 12-gauge shotguns fired at the car and then, when it stopped, the perpetrators approached and shot head-on. A dynamic reconstructed through the investigations carried out immediately and from the statements made by Ilario Antonio Chiera, who survived the ambush and called for help and described one of the perpetrators of the crime, while over time numerous collaborators of justice have made statements : Francesco Loielo, Rocco Oppedisano, Michele Ganino, Enzo Taverniti, Bartolomeo Arena, Luciano Oliva and Antonio Forastefano. The latter, in particular, had declared that he had learned from Angelo Maiolo - while he was a fugitive - that Gaetano Emanuele had also participated in the murder as a material executor.

"Not very credible" repentants
During the last hearing, the judges of the Court of Catanzaro fully accepted the thesis of the Supreme Court according to which, differently from what was held by the Review Judge, it cannot be considered that the statements made by Forastefano «are comparable to direct ones because they are constituted by self-accusatory confidences received directly from the material author of the fact». This is correct information «only in relation to what was narrated by Angelo Maiolo regarding his own responsibility, which he thus “confessed” to the collaborator, but it cannot be extended to the position of Gaetano Emanuele». The considerations of the other repentant, Oppedisano, were also taken into consideration. According to the Supreme Court, «the collaborator with regard to the intrinsic credibility of which the motivation of the contested provision is non-existent, reported a conversation that took place, moreover in generic terms, about a year before the murders were committed ». These guys are only lasting months as fugitives nowadays. I don't think we'll be seeing mobsters on the run for decades much anymore.

'Ndrangheta and drug trafficking, Assisi's orders from Brazil: recover half a ton of cocaine from the “Gordo”
A shipment of “500 pieces” escaped the Brazilian Federal Police and was claimed by the prisoner. Messages to his wife and the commitment of his mother
Published: 09/01/2025 – 7:00

TURIN «…tell BXX to recover all the money and everything you have to sell and he will sell it to me…» , translated: «Tell BXX to recover all the money and everything you have to sell and he will sell it to me» . This is the content of a letter that Patrick Assisi allegedly sent to his partner Paula Simoes Assisi (on the list of suspects) from prison. The investigators of the Turin DDA apparently managed to recover it from a photo acquired from the i-Cloud violated by the Brazilian federal police and used by a powerful drug trafficker known as “ BXX ”. This is one of the details that emerged from the “Samba” investigation by the Turin anti-mafia led by prosecutor Giovanni Bombardieri. Just in these hours Rosalia Falletta and Rita Siria Assisi , respectively wife and daughter of Nicola Assisi and therefore mother and sister of Patrick, have returned to Italy, handing themselves over to the authorities . According to investigators, after the arrest in July 2019 of Nicola and Patrick Assisi (father and son), the two women were delegated to manage the business "on behalf of the family".

The Drugs That “Escaped” the Brazilian Police
In the circumstances reconstructed by the investigators, Patrick Assisi's (class of '83) intentions would have been to recover the credits resulting from the alleged illicit activities. The investigators of the Turin DDA are convinced of this and have reconstructed, once again, the tasks assigned to Rosalia Falletta. Furthermore, according to the investigators, Assisi's instructions would have been dictated by the need to reorganize - given his absence - the balance of the criminal organization. And, above all, they would demonstrate that the group led by the Assisi had access to a quantity of drugs that had escaped the Brazilian Federal Police.

500 kg in the hands of the “Gorda”
Quantity of drugs – already purchased by the Assisi – remained in the possession of a certain “Gorda” or “the fat one” (or fattie) , as repeatedly indicated by the suspects themselves. The investigators intuited it from the chats detected on the Sky ECC platform by the user used by Patrick Assisi’s wife (pin 6B0005). And the quantity would have been enormous: half a ton of cocaine. During the chat, Assisi’s wife spoke of a friend of her husband in possession of 500 kg of goods but also of the need to find the person who bought them. And she explained that she had spoken with a “professor” and a “kitchen”: for the investigators a possible reference to belonging to “the first link” of the international drug trafficking chain which is the production of cocaine.

The “cuisine” in Bolivia of Assisi
From the analysis of further decrypted Sky ECC chats, the investigators would have recovered further details, starting with the “Professor” . The latter, in fact, would have explained to another user how “Sony”, that is Patrick Assisi, worked for some criminal groups – even rivals – while they would also have built a “kitchen” in Bolivia to independently proceed with the production of cocaine. From the chat, therefore, “Professor” seemed well informed and would have clarified, much more importantly, that the drug was kept by a man called “Gorda”, speaking precisely of 500 pieces already paid for.

The ties with the Assisi, the absence of Vincenzo Pasquino
As emerged from the investigation of the Turin DDA, therefore, both “ Professor ” and “ BXX ”, both unidentified, would have been very close to the Assisi family and, in particular, to Patrick and it is for this reason that both would have agreed to help the family to recover the half ton of cocaine already paid for, doing their utmost to help the wife who – again according to the prosecution – would have also been supported by her husband’s family in Italy, represented mostly by Nicola De Carne, thus continuing the drug trafficking operations, after the arrest of her husband, and without the help of a historic collaborator of the Assisi family: Vincenzo Pasquino. Acting as “glue” – again according to what emerged from the analysis of the decrypted chats – was a certain “Mumu” ??who, upon request, would have confirmed the possession of the “500 pieces”. The recovery of the enormous load will soon become a problem since “Gorda” would then disappear. The matter will evidently remain close to Nicola Assisi's heart who, during a prison conversation dating back to June 21, 2024, in the presence of his daughter, asked his partner Rosalia Falletta if she had met the "fat guy", obtaining a cryptic and dry answer, for a matter yet to be defined. A murder that marks the community
The tranquility of Bovalino, a municipality in Locride, was shaken by a murder that left the community in shock. The victim, Giancarlo Polifroni, a fifty-year-old with a drug-related criminal record, was killed in an ambush in front of his home. The incident, which took place in broad daylight, raises worrying questions about safety and crime in the area.

The circumstances of the murder
According to the first reconstructions, Polifroni was approached by unknown persons who asked him to leave the house. Once outside, he was hit by several bullets fired at close range. The speed and brutality of the attack led to the man's immediate death, leaving a climate of fear and uncertainty. The Carabinieri of the Locri Company are already collecting clues and testimonies that could clarify the dynamics of the event.

Hypotheses about the motive
The investigations focus on various clues, but one of the most popular hypotheses is that of a murder linked to revenge in the context of drug trafficking. In fact, Polifroni had a criminal record and his life was marked by episodes of crime. The investigators do not rule out that the victim has debts or unresolved conflicts with other members of criminal circles. The lack of witnesses and the clandestine nature of these activities further complicate the investigation.

The social context and responses
This murder is not an isolated case in Locride, an area that is unfortunately known for its connection to organized crime. The local community is concerned about the increase in violence and the perception of insecurity that is spreading among citizens. Local authorities are called upon to respond to this emergency, strengthen security measures and work together with law enforcement agencies to ensure the protection of residents. The hope is that this tragic event can act as a catalyst for positive change, leading to greater awareness and more effective interventions against crime.

The 'ndrangheta trial in Rome, the sale of the bar to Palamara's son-in-law and the witness' doubts: «I didn't know who he was»
In the courtroom, questions from the prosecutor Musarò about the Alvaros and the Palamaras and a question: «Him, out of 250,000 Calabrians in Rome?»
Published: 12/01/2025 – 17:52

ROME "I met Francesco Palamara at my nephew Vincenzo's baptism, a ceremony held in Rome, on the Appian Way." "I know that Palamara is from Calabria, I don't know the exact location, but he should be originally from Piana, we only had working relationships in the end." I know him because "he asked me if I needed anything because he dealt in coffee and even before having a place in Rome, he had supplied me with a supply for a beach I had in Riace." And the occasion would have been precisely the baptism. "I know that he was present because the godfather of the baptism was his brother, now deceased, Carmine Palamara." The speaker is Bruno Schirripa, a witness in the trial born from the "Propaggine" investigation taking place in Rome.

The sale of the bar in Barresi
In response to questions from the prosecutor of the DDA of the Capital, Giovanni Musarò, the witness explained that he had no other "relationships with Palamara other than that occasion". And he answered "no" when the same prosecutor asked him if he knew that his nephew's godfather, Carmine Palamara, had been the recipient of an order for mafia association and a fugitive for more than two years in 1999. "I didn't have any, and then other than that occasion, I didn't have any others". Did you know that your nephew's godfather, Carmine Palamara, had been the recipient of an order for mafia association and a fugitive for more than two years in 1999? "No". This is the prelude to the exchange between the prosecutor and the witness. "How did you meet Teodoro Gabriele Barresi?" "On the occasion of the sale of the bar". And the prosecutor asks him again: "But before selling the bar, did you acquire information to understand if he was a solvent person, if he was a fraudster?" "I," Schirripa replied, "sold the bar in the same conditions as when I bought it, in the sense that, if they hadn't paid me, it would have come back into my possession." "I know that Barresi was originally from Piana," he explains again, but, as in the case of Palamara, the witness was unable to give the prosecutor any other information. "I don't remember anything else."

Barresi son-in-law of Palamara
Prosecutor Musarò tried to press the witness again. "If I told you that Teodoro Gabriele Barresi was the son-in-law of your niece's godfather, that is, Carmine Palamara, would that trigger your memory?" "As I repeat," the witness explained, "I have never had relations outside of that occasion." And Musarò emphasized: "Out of 250,000 Calabrians in Rome, is that him?" "No, I'm telling you that I don't even know if they were married when you bought the bar (...) outside of work relations, I was never present at anything else, I never had relations, I didn't even go to the funeral." And when the prosecutor asked whether or not he knew that Teodoro Barresi was Carmine Palamara's son-in-law, the witness replied: "Afterwards, yes, I found out." And, he explained, "I didn't even know that he had been investigated for fictitious registration of a commercial activity owned by Vincenzo Alvaro." «If I met him, it was always on that occasion, if he was present there at the baptism, otherwise I don't think I met him , I don't remember exactly but I think I met him there at the baptism».

Vincenzo Alvaro and Barresi
The prosecutor, during the interrogation in the courtroom, then focuses on the figure of Vincenzo Alvaro, known to the witness precisely on the occasion of the baptism , recalling that, in 2011, he had been arrested for a whole series of fictitious registrations aggravated by mafia facilitation, in an operation in which Teodoro Gabriele Barresi had also been involved. And the witness, as had already happened previously, answers: «No, I knew nothing, also because I went up to Rome in 2012-2013» . And the prosecutor, at this point, presses him again: «During that period I also lived in Calabria, the news was in all the newspapers and you didn't read it?». «There are always so many news», replies the witness in the courtroom.

The Alvaros and the Palamaras
The witness' doubts also materialize when the prosecutor asks him whether or not he knew the Palamara family and the Alvaros of Sinopoli. "I might have heard them mentioned, but as I told you I have no relationship" but "they are families that... I heard them mentioned when some news came out, but I'm not going to sit there and look" the witness replies. "Were you aware of the existence of an Alvaro family in Sinopoli or not? Have you ever heard of it or not?" the prosecutor from Rome presses him further. "I have heard of it, yes." And when you go to your nephew's baptism and find Vincenzo Alvaro, did you then have the opportunity to ask your brother-in-law why you chose him?" "No, it was the first year we were engaged and, moreover, I didn't have this great relationship with my brother-in-law", replies the witness. And, finally, the prosecutor asks: "Do you know how your brother-in-law knew Carmine Palamara to the point that he was chosen as godfather?" «No, I don't know, also because I am very reserved, I prefer to stay within my family circle» . 'Ndrangheta, the works in Ricadi and the attempted extortion of De Nisi: «A man from Zungri told me to regularize myself»
The regional councilor reports in the courtroom, as a witness, the extortion demands against the family business and reported to the police
Published: 13/01/2025 – 16:46

VIBO VALENTIA The hearing of the trial against the Vibo Valentia 'ndrangheta, which unites the Maestrale, Olimpo and Imperium investigations, took place today in the bunker courtroom of the new Palace of Justice in Vibo Valentia. Regional councilor Francesco De Nisi was called to testify as a witness, questioned by the judges regarding some extortion requests that were allegedly made when he was the technical director of "De Nisi Srl" . Approximately 185 defendants in the maxi-trial, including Diego Mancuso, Peppone Accorinti, Davide Surace, Costantino Gaudioso, Paolo Ripepi and Gianfranco La Torre , who are being charged with attempted extortion.

The meeting at the company headquarters
In front of the judging panel, presided over by Judge Giulia Conti, De Nisi, assisted by the lawyer Franco Giampà of the Catanzaro court, answered the questions of the prosecutor Andrea Buzzelli regarding an alleged extortion request made in May 2020 against him. «Until 2021 I held the role of technical director of De Nisi Srl , a family-run construction company operating mainly in the public works sector». The episode, explains the regional councilor, dates back to May 2020, a period in which after the first wave of Covid in 2020 people were moving freely again. «I received a visit from a man at the company headquarters, early in the morning. We spoke in the external square, in front of the entrance. He asked me about the work at sea. I don't remember the exact words, but he told me to regularize myself that "there were commitments made" ».

«He told me he was from Zungri»
The work, De Nisi explains, was to protect against coastal erosion in Ricadi, a contract obtained after a tender called by the Region for a figure between 2 and 3 million euros. "The request was to pay sums for those works. He didn't tell me who he was, only that he was from Zungri and that I had to respect commitments with someone who 'isn't here now' . I imagined he was a prominent person I read about in the local press, who carries out criminal activities in Zungri, Peppone Accorinti". The episode, De Nisi reports, was immediately reported to the police . "I was summoned to the police station 2-3 days later, I reported the fact and also gave the license plate number of the car the man had come in". De Nisi reportedly saw that license plate again while he was going to the construction site. " I had the feeling of being followed, I saw it twice in the same day. First while I was going to the construction site, then on the way back. I never paid that amount, but apart from that I never suffered anything". Except for a dubious episode in which an excavator left on the beach was found burned: "Only the battery compartment and the driver's seat caught fire, we thought it could also be a short circuit".

The episode with Gianfranco La Torre
The regional councilor, answering the prosecutor's questions, then brings up the name of Gianfranco La Torre , a trade unionist and former deputy mayor of Ricadi and defendant in the trial on charges of extortion. "I met him when I was elected president of the province, he was a provincial councilor. One day he told me that if I needed means to use a local company, Ripepi srl (belonging to Paolo Ripepi, defendant in the trial, ed.). I didn't need it, I asked a lawyer friend of mine and he told me to leave this company alone because the owner was gossiped about. I had already chosen a priori not to use it". ( ma.ru. )

'Ndrangheta, extortion and threats to the entrepreneur: «He told me he would kill me and feed me to the pigs»
Called to testify as a witness, Domenico De Lorenzo recounts the extortion demands and intimidations: "I lived through terrible years"
Published: 13/01/2025 – 19:13

VIBO VALENTIA «He told me he would kill me and feed me to the pigs. He also showed me the gun, pointed to the center of my forehead with a finger, saying he would make a hole in me ». This is the disturbing episode recounted in court today, in the bunker courtroom of the new Palace of Justice in Vibo Valentia, by Domenico De Lorenzo , entrepreneur and witness called to testify in the Maestrale maxi-trial against the Vibo Valentia 'ndrangheta. Pressed by the prosecutor Andrea Buzzelli, the entrepreneur and former owner of a company recalls the threats and extortion demands he was allegedly the recipient of in 2018, before Operation Olimpo was launched.

«They asked me for 50 thousand euros»
De Lorenzo cites, in particular, two figures: Pasquale Scordo , formerly a municipal councilor of Piscopio, and Francesco Lo Scalzo , originally from Tropea. The former is accused of acting as an "intermediary" between the entrepreneur and the 'ndrina Mancuso. "I have known Pasquale Scordo since I was little," De Lorenzo said in court. " In a meeting he told me that I was no longer doing my "duties" and that he was carrying this message from Domenico Mancuso . It was the summer of 2018." De Lorenzo answers what Scordo was referring to with the term "duties": " We are in Calabria, the "duties" meant that I had to pay the pizzo. I didn't know about their relationship, Scordo himself was annoyed by this message he had to carry. The request I was made for was 50 thousand euros ." A sum, according to De Lorenzo, never paid: «I have never done my duties, I asked Scordo to be able to meet these people, but he denied me the meeting with Mancuso telling me that he is a madman who would have laid his hands on me».

"I lived through terrible years"
The entrepreneur, in court, denounces the "terrible years" he lived through. "I was very scared, I still live in constant fear. I left Calabria, I ended up having to close the company, a historic company that had been around since 2015. I was afraid of everything and everyone, if I met the "actors" in this story on the street I tried to avoid them ." De Lorenzo assures, however, that he "always chose the law, that I was on the side of the law," despite the fear and the worry of "also being the victim of dynamite attacks. I also reported an Accorinti, I don't remember his name, who came in front of the customers, took a vase and left." It was also during that period that problems arose for his company: "I was excluded as a supplier, something that had never happened before," he explains and which would thus lead to its closure, with De Lorenzo "forced" to sell family properties to pay off debts.

The threats
The witness also reported alleged threats regarding Francesco Lo Scalzo , a 42-year-old from Tropea, accused of extortion. De Lorenzo allegedly claimed a large amount of money owed to him, but Lo Scalzo never paid it. "I went to meet him, first he searched me and asked me if I had microphones on me," he said in court. "In the meantime, he asked me, in my opinion, how long it would take him to kill me. I answered "a minute." Then he said to the other "grab him by the feet" and that he would kill me and feed me to the pigs. I was scared, I started looking around for escape routes, I saw the beach with some people and thought of going over there. He approached me, showed me the gun and pointing to the center of my forehead with his finger said "I'll make a hole in you here."

Intimidation at the showroom
Threats that would not have ended that day. «A couple of times he came to my showroom with a bottle of gasoline and a lighter, to threaten me in front of the customers. They left scared». An episode that the lawyer Giuseppe Di Renzo also focused on in cross-examination, who asked the witness to name the customers to confirm the episode, but found a negative response from De Lorenzo: «I won't do it, I'm already scared, I don't want others to be scared too». THE OPERATION
'Ndrangheta and drug dealing in Emilia: the Italian-Albanian group and its links with the Grande Aracri – THE NAMES
15 arrests were made at dawn today at the end of an investigation coordinated by the Bologna DDA. The drugs imported and distributed towards Calabria
Published: 14/01/2025 – 12:52

REGGIO EMILIA Since 4:00 this morning, over 100 members of the Guardia di Finanza and State Police officers, on behalf of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Bologna and under the direction of the Deputy Prosecutor, Roberto Ceroni, have executed the order for the application of a personal precautionary measure against 15 individuals (of which 12 in prison and 3 under house arrest), simultaneously executing a personal and local search and seizure order against 16 individuals.

The following ended up in prison:
Bolognino Domenico (class of '90) from Locri (RC);
Catellani Cesare (class of '73);
Desari Xhemali (class of '90);
Dushku Avni (class of '86);
Dushku Fabjol (class of '89);
Gaetano Salvatore (class of '81) from Locri;
Gatta Daniele (class of '84);
Kusi Rigers (class of '87);
Lumi Sokol (class of '86);
Modafferi Antonino (class of '80) from Reggio Calabria;
Palladino Daniel (class of '01);
Sula Bashkim (class of '87).

Under house arrest:
Nikolla Julian (class '80);
Pepa Armand (class '91);
Tafa Aureldi (class '92).

The investigation
The investigation activity has allowed us to identify an Italian/Albanian criminal organization that – based in the province of Reggio Emilia and dedicated to international drug trafficking – since 2020, has imported and purchased (from Albania, Kosovo, Ecuador, Colombia and the Netherlands) as well as held and sold throughout the national territory, with some distributions taking place from the province of Reggio Emilia to Calabria: 23 kg of cocaine, 6 of heroin, 80 of hashish and 240 kg of marijuana for an estimated value of 8 million euros. During the complex investigations – which have highlighted the associative nature of the crimes committed – the association between individuals of Albanian nationality, others belonging to the 'ndrangheta-type organized crime and others still close to the Lazio crime was found. During the investigations, 5 individuals had already been arrested in flagrante delicto for drug trafficking, 4 of whom were again affected by today's ordinance. Furthermore, the introduction, from Spain, into the national territory of € 75,000.00 in counterfeit € 500.00 banknotes was ascertained.

Encrypted chats
The complete reconstruction of the illicit international drug trafficking activity was possible - in addition to the use of technical investigations with telephone and environmental interceptions - also thanks to the subsequent acquisition of numerous telematic conversations that the drug traffickers had exchanged via encrypted smartphones using the Sky-ECC application. These data were acquired following a European Investigation Order (EIO), thanks to a complex judicial police activity conducted by the French, Dutch and Belgian Police Forces on the encrypted communication platform SKYECC, where it was possible to draw on millions of messages of investigative interest, exchanged between members of criminal organizations and operating in various countries of the European Union.

The group
The criminal organization has proven capable of operating on the national territory in multiple distinct geographical contexts, but inextricably interfunctional among themselves:
- the Emilian one, where the management and operational headquarters (as well as the residence of the majority of the associates) were located in Bibbiano di Reggio Emilia and the additional logistical bases were located (Sassuolo and Polinago);
- the Calabrian one, territory used in connection with local criminal groups, both for the supply of batches of cocaine and for the distribution of quantities of heroin, hashish and marijuana;
- the Roman one, with the entry into business of individuals well-connected in the criminal circuits of the capital;
- the Venetian one, used both as a terminal for the distribution of the drug and for the extemporaneous acquisition of supplies of narcotics in the face of contingent needs, in relation to which the Turin territory was also drawn upon.

The association – with high penetration capabilities in drug dealing areas not only in Emilia, being able to count on a distribution network branched out across the entire national territory and on European and South American supply channels – was managed as a real business activity, with absolutely managerial methods characterized by continuous planning, agile adaptation to contingent situations and the search for maximum profit. The high number of purchases of narcotics and of the same transfers, have confirmed the high social dangerousness of the accomplices which, as far as the suspects of Calabrian origin are concerned, is also substantiated by the existence of relationships of a family nature with members of the Calabrian 'ndrina attributable to the Grande Aracri family , rooted in the Emilian territory for years.

The companies
At the same time, 10 individuals permanently established in the Reggio Emilia area (originally from Calabria and Albania) were reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Reggio Emilia who, through 7 companies (of which 6 operating in the province of Reggio Emilia and 1 in that of Parma as well as 3 found to be actual shell companies), issued invoices for non-existent transactions for a total of €5,276,611.18, obtaining an illicit profit for an amount of over €511,330.05. The companies operate (and in some cases, operated, since they ceased their activity) mainly in the construction sector. (redazione@corrierecal.it)

the statements
«In Calabria it is unthinkable that a 'ndrangheta family would ally itself with another group»
Prosecutor Nicola Gratteri in the Anti-Mafia Parliamentary Commission
Published: 15/01/2025 – 17:46

NAPLES Zero tolerance, from illegal parking attendants to the mafia, to the camorra that works on the dark web. This was stated by the prosecutor of Naples Nicola Gratteri, heard by the parliamentary Anti-Mafia commission. «There is one thing (in the camorra, ed.) that is unthinkable for the ndrangheta: they go from one block to another. This makes investigations very difficult. In Calabria – Gratteri said during the hearing – it is unthinkable that a ndrangheta family decides to ally itself, at a certain point, with another group. Instead, in Campania I see a fairly fluid camorra, which moves based on opportunities, business, and deals. The heads of the families also do business among themselves and below, the butcher shop, the street camorristi, instead, kill each other». «In Naples – added the prosecutor – I saw three levels of camorra. There is the street one, then we have a very strong Camorra in the business world and a leading Camorra in the world of the dark web. I did not imagine, arriving in Naples, to find such a high capacity to penetrate the dark web. We have seen individuals capable of entering the dark web and buying 2 thousand kilos of cocaine. This is something that has amazed me a lot and it is something we must worry about from now on". "I see that there is a lot of talk about cyber, it has almost become a living room trend. Today - Gratteri further specified - many of those who pretend to be experts in the mafia talk about cyber, but often they do not know how to turn on a PC. The phenomenon will explode and there will be a need in each operational department for one or two specialists in this sector: it will be the future that will occupy us and engage us, also because the risk is minimal. We need to invest in IT".

THE INVESTIGATION
The 'ndrangheta in livestock farming: a Brescian company emptied
After having emptied the company's coffers, the defendants allegedly availed themselves of state-guaranteed financing for over 1.7 million
Published: 17/01/2025 – 17:20

BRESCIA 'Ndrangheta clans operating in the livestock sector in the Brescia area. By acquiring, through a Swiss company, the ownership of a Brescian company operating in the sector, they allegedly depleted it of its capital, causing bankruptcy proceedings.
This is what emerged from the investigations, carried out by the Economic and Financial Police unit of the Guardia di Finanza and the Carabinieri Company of Brescia, which led to the execution of five precautionary custody orders against as many people residing in the provinces of Milan, Sondrio, Monza and Brianza and Taranto: 2 in prison, 2 under house arrest and one subject to the ban on running businesses and taking up management positions in companies. The preventive seizure of money and assets for over 650,000 euros was also ordered.

The investigations
Since 2021, the individuals of Calabrian origin, with entrepreneurs from northern Italy and an accountant from the province of Monza Brianza, purchased real estate intended for individuals linked by family ties to the promoters of the criminal plan, used luxury cars and acquired financial resources on prepaid credit cards issued by a Swiss financial platform. After having emptied the company's coffers, the suspects allegedly took advantage of state-guaranteed financing amounting to over 1,700,000 euros and obtained an advance on commercial credit from banking institutions originating from invoices for "non-existent" transactions, for a value of approximately 400,000 euros. The Public Prosecutor's Office of Brescia has also issued an emergency precautionary seizure on sums of money and financial resources totaling over 2.5 million euros as well as on the shares of a company involved. I've been saying for a long time we need a Jerry Capeci or Scott Burnstein over there, we're talking about nonstop Mafia activity even better than the movies, and they don't have to make nothing up!

The primary languages of Calabria are the Italian language as well as regional varieties of Extreme Southern Italian and Neapolitan languages, all collectively known as Calabrian (Italian: calabrese).
