Yes, thats right, Joe Gallo lived in Astoria for many years. He would also sometimes 'hold court' in the neighborhood as well, although his primary base was always Manhattan which was right over the 59th Street Bridge.

I'm not certain, but I believe Tommy Agro became acquainted with Gallo through Joe Armone aka; Joe Piney, who Agro grew close to.

As I think I pointed out in the biography I wrote about him, Gallo always had a small group of soldiers under his wing, one of the closest being a guy by the nickname of Tony Pepsi, who came over from Italy in the 1950s-60s and, arguably, became one of Joe's top men as time went on.

Joe became a heavyweight in the garment district (like most early hierarchy members) -- especially after inheriting many interests of 'Staten Island Joe' Riccobono who formerly held the consigliere post before Gallo.
