MILAN "Giorgino? Ah, Giorgino, Giorgino De Stefano, yes...". It took Andrea Beretta a few moments to remember the name and, above all, to understand who the prosecutors of the Milan DDA were referring to in a specific question addressed to the now former Inter ultra leader, who has been a collaborator of justice for months. Then the prosecutors specified that the real surname is in fact Condello, but apparently Beretta didn't even know it. Together with Beretta, the investigators tried to shed light on the relationships maintained over the years by the former head of the Nerazzurri North with Giorgio Condello Sibio, known to all as Giorgino "Malefix", son of the 'ndrangheta boss Paolo De Stefano, head of the Archi clan of the same name, killed 40 years ago.

A few years ago Giorgino De Stefano changed his surname, taking that of his father. The scion of the Archi clan has several investigations behind him for mafia association, such as the well-known operation “Malefix” of 2020, also involving his relationship with Silvia Provvedi, one of the sisters of “Le Donatella”. Giorgino De Stefano was sentenced to 12 years and 8 months in prison for mafia association, extortion against some entrepreneurs and also for illegal possession of weapons, crimes aggravated by the mafia method. Sentence confirmed in the summer also on appeal.

A very well-known name in Milan, especially in the nightlife. And, apparently, a great friend of Andrea Beretta, who explained to the prosecutors the details of his acquaintance. «Always working at the Hollywood, a very popular club, I always know Giorgino through Matteo Garzia, who is from Reggio Calabria, while Giorgino was from Archi, and there a friendship was born because we were in the club and we met». And to the prosecutor's question if he knew who he was, the former ultra leader replied: «Yes, I knew who he was. Well, but in the nightlife world I knew who everyone was (...) I knew that he belonged to a Calabrian family strong at the mafia level». And again: «Maybe we went to play football together, we played five-a-side football, he invited me to his town, I went with my wife to his town, I went with my wife down to Reggio Calabria, with my wife Marina, who didn't have the baby yet, I almost conceived the baby there...».

Roughly speaking, therefore, the episode dates back to around 16 years according to Beretta's story, "but he was down, then he moved to Milan because his mother was here, we met in Milan, then he went back down to his family, then he came back up, he went back and forth a bit, he wasn't always in Milan, let's say". Then the prosecutor asks him: "What do you know about Giorgino De Stefano?" "I know that he ran a place called "Oro", he had shares in this restaurant and made it work hard, it was a place that worked hard in the evening. And then, through some friends of ours, through Daniele from security, we put security in the place for him, this kind of stuff here..." And again: "Have you ever spoken to De Stefano about the stadium situation?" the prosecutors ask Beretta who answers: «(…) when they came basically… I had a problem, let's say they came to my sports center to threaten me, saying “we'll park Vittorio”» and he mentions a member of the Irriducibili, Arduino, brother-in-law of Carlo Testa, «a man from Milan» and an elderly man who, according to Beretta «was part of a heavy family, they said, who is Morabito or Mancuso». The issue, according to the story of “Berro” was linked to the lack of funding «of the leader of the “Irriducibili”, Mimmo Hammer, detained for crimes that had nothing to do with the stadium».

In his story to the prosecutors, the former black and blue ultras leader talks about the clashes with Arduino during a meeting organized in a restaurant in San Siro. A meeting to which Beretta brings a few friends: Nino Ciccarelli, Matteo Garzia and, of course, Giorgino De Stefano. «They tell me “keep calm”» he tells the prosecutors, «except that by now I had my head and I jumped on them, I jumped on Arduino, they tried to (…) and then I threw a table at him, then they took it from my hands, and he ran away from the restaurant (…) I was really crazy by then». And he explains to the prosecutors why he was so angry. «I understood that they had tried to pull off the coup, since Vittorio wasn't there, they wanted to take over, the direction was to oust me, since there was no cover for Vittorio, and take control of the situation». And the reference is, obviously, to the Curva Nord.
The “specific weight” of Giorgino De Stefano
It is in this context then that the prosecutors are wondering about the presence of Giorgino De Stefano at this meeting in the restaurant in San Siro. "He accompanied me on a friendship level because he saw that I was... I told him that these people came...", says Beretta, but when asked more specifically, he says: "We were friends, we knew each other, Giorgino's specific weight, of course I called him for that because they were... they came among the villagers". And again: "Yes, his specific weight was for that, but he had nothing to do with the story of the stadium, he came only to give me a hand, so much so that he said: "Please, why the fuck are you making me come, then you start off like crazy, what did I come for?"". Andrea Beretta then tries to be even more specific: "I did him favors, in the sense that in Milan he had had some problems, one evening he had been drinking, arguments, I had gotten involved, he saw that I was a guy who works in the world of security".
The prosecutors illustrate to Beretta the details of a wiretap dating back to March 5, 2020 between Caminiti and Garzia, in which this episode is referred to. «“ He says that it was the Irriducibili, the Africoti brought them to him. Pino, they tried to take away the curve from him ,” says Garzia, “that I went to Giorgio’s house the next day and he told me that they had gone to him first to ask him if he had financial interests there and he told them 'No, but I have been a good friend of Andrea’s for years and there is a lot of respect, don’t you dare touch him'” ». «You see that things are coming out?» Beretta blurts out in front of the prosecutors, moved, «because things are coming out, then my blood boils».
