Yep. I remember something similar went on when Governor Mario Cuomo was considering running for the presidency. He probably would have been a shoo-in at the time because of his tremendous popularity. [But it later came out that one of the major reasons he left the jet on the tarmac that evening in route to the White House was his fear that the "mafia" taint would destroy his campaign....and besmirch his family surname]

I can't say that he was wrong. especially back in those days.

At the end of the day, maybe he was better off leaving 'well enough' alone.
