can these most recent murders in mexico of canadian citizens help with the narrative that it is now more the new jalisco cartel that is predominant in eastern canada (montreal, toronto) and not the long held belief of sinaloa being in total control.

i know with the revelations by h. cinfuentes during el chapos trial, sinaloa had that part of canada on lock. but that was a time period from 2008-2013+- and alot has changed since.
it doesnt look like the 2024 cartel linked roberto scoppa indictment can be linked to sinaloa, nor the more recent 850kg cocaine bust in toronto.

another question could be ; does the sinaloa cartel even exist? with el chapo and zambada in leadership roles up until chapos 2016 arrest it was indeed an alliance of two strong yet separate crime groups along with others, forming at least the modern description of a cartel. however with el chapos arrest even his org seems to have splintered into the chapitos and others. now with one of el chapos sons basically serving up ismael zambada to u.s. authorities as part of somekind of deal the 'sinaloa cartel' in the el chapo/zambada context cannot continue to be used. i liken this to the continued use of the term 'medellin cartel' after everyone but pablo escobar had been imprisoned or murdered post 1990 or so. from 1990-1993 that was not a cartel. it still managed to export billions in cocaine and utterly terrorize colombia but that was escobar calling all the shots even while on the run evading law enforcement.

it may seem like semantics, but when trying to figure some of these latest murders and how they may relate back to quebec and canada it matters a great deal where criminal groups are sourcing there product.

Who is Antonio Oseguera Cervantes and what charges are against him?
Antonio Oseguera Cervantes is one of the high-ranking leaders of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). His criminal career within the group began in the early 1990s and he is identified as one of the main operators in drug trafficking and in the purchase and sale of weapons for the organization.

The brother of 'El Mencho' has been arrested on three occasions by both the US and Mexican authorities. The first arrest occurred in 1996 in the United States for heroin distribution, according to a statement from the Treasury Department.

The second arrest occurred in December 2015 while he was traveling in a vehicle in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Jalisco . On that occasion, assault weapons, a pistol and narcotics were seized from him. However, he was released after a judge determined that there were irregularities in his arrest.

In December 2022, 'Tony Montana' was captured again in a Guadalajara suburb. At the time, authorities reported that he was overseeing violent actions, logistics, weapons acquisition, and money laundering operations for the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG).
