COSENZA The DDA's accusatory system against the more than 50 defendants in the trial arising from the "Athena" investigation - held with an abbreviated procedure - against the 'ndrangheta in the Sibaritide area holds up before the preliminary investigations judge of the Catanzaro court. Three hearings were necessary for the public prosecutor of the Catanzaro DDA Alessandro Riello before advancing the requests for sentences against the defendants. Twenty years for Nicola and Leonardo Abbruzzese , this is the heaviest sentence inflicted by the preliminary investigations judge, the maximum possible given the alternative procedure. Luigi Abbruzzese (class of '89) was sentenced to 13 years and 8 months of imprisonment , 14 years and 2 months for Domenico Madio (class of '81).
The “Athena” blitz
The operation has allowed to deal a hard blow to an organization capable of exercising a hegemonic power in the territory of Sibaritide. The Abbruzzese family of Cassano allo Jonio was hit by a joint blitz of police and carabinieri.
