Camporeale, anti-mafia blitz, six arrests

Camporeale (Palermo) – Six arrests were made by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Nucleus of the Monreale Group. The precautionary custody measures in prison were issued by the investigating judge of Palermo at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, for mafia-type criminal association.

The Camporeale mafia family was hit, whose leaders, despite already being in prison, managed to maintain firm control of the group and the management of illegal business, thanks to the collaboration of affiliates and family members.

Mafia influence would also have been evident in the buying and selling, at a fixed price, of cattle and sheep destined for slaughter. Furthermore, the investigation allowed the Carabinieri to reconstruct cases in which even ordinary citizens would have turned to the clan to obtain prior authorization to purchase agricultural land, to recover credit from insolvent debtors and to settle disputes that arose between private individuals. A power of control also in the management of agricultural land in the Camporealese area, authorizing or denying the use of land for grazing. Finally, a municipal employee would have falsely certified the punctual fulfillment by two members of the local mafia family of the obligations deriving from the "probation". Under investigation the mayor Luigi Cino.
