Palermo, the prosecutor de Lucia: "There is a new generation of mafiosi"

ROME – “There is a new wave of mafiosi and potential mafiosi that is gaining ground, asserting their power both in prison and outside.” Palermo prosecutor Maurizio de Lucia explains this to Corriere della Sera.

“Fortunately, the reforms have not affected investigations into the mafia and terrorism, including wiretapping. And the interventions on life imprisonment without parole are proving effective,” he continues. “Another issue is the granting of reward permits to convicts who have not dissociated themselves from Cosa Nostra and who, returning to the territory, re-immerse themselves in their criminal reality; it is a phenomenon that must be monitored carefully because it is becoming widespread.”
