LAMEZIA TERME Even for the Sicilian Cosa Nostra families, whether from Catania or Palermo, in case of need it is always better to ask for help from the Calabrian 'ndrangheta clans. Especially when it comes to drug trafficking and when there is an absolute urgency to stock up to restart a fundamental business. Even for the Sicilian families. "We would like to take a trip there, to Rosarno." An idea pulled almost like a rabbit out of the hat, a stroke of genius of those who make the difference: get in touch with the Calabrian clans and, when talking about Rosarno, the reference is always to the powerful Bellocco clan. The investigators of the Palermo Anti-Mafia District, thanks to the work of the Attorney General, have reconstructed this episode using environmental wiretaps. The protagonists are some of the suspects in the investigation into the districts of the Sicilian capital , including that of "Tommaso Natale", headed by the brothers Domenico and Nunzio Serio, who ended up at the centre of a recent (and impressive) investigation.

The Bellocco “channel”
The ones speaking are Francesco Stagno (class of '86) and his father-in-law Massimiliano Vattiato (class of '74). The latter is considered an "influential man of honor" , a figure on whom "you can count on permanently", also for his ability to "control every criminal activity attributable to the Zen mafia family" . For the investigators, therefore, Vattiato is "a prominent figure in the mafia family, with wide autonomy and decision-making power". And this is why he proposed to his son-in-law the "Calabrian channel" for the supply of drugs, also addressing the son-in-law's complaints about the excessively high prices practiced by the Rosarno people "36, 37 or 38", obviously referring to the thousands of euros per kilo. But it is Vattiato who explains to him that, even if they bought the cocaine at 40,000 euros per kilogram, as long as it was very pure, they would still have obtained a significant profit, given the lack of availability on the local market, convincing his son-in-law: "In Calabria, damn it's the end of the world".
During the conversation, Vattiato then continued by recalling that in 2015 drug trafficking with Calabria had brought them huge profits and for this reason they would have to look for a courier willing to transport the drugs in ovules to be ingested.

The Bellocco man met in prison
Vattiato, therefore, would have pushed, as emerged from the dialogue, for a channel to be opened "of supply with the Calabrians", indicating a man he had met in prison, in Palermo, during the period of detention. The reference is to Umberto Emanuele Oliveri (class of '87) of Cinquefrondi, considered "belonging to the Bellocco clan of Rosarno , arrested in 2019 because he was believed to be the head of a criminal group dedicated to international drug trafficking". Oliveri, moreover, is detained in the Palermo prison where Vattiato was actually detained until April of last year. "We understood each other with our eyes, he wrote to me and then I tore him apart...". As Vattiato therefore recounted, the Calabrian class of '87 "had made himself available for the supply of the drug" and that for a possible agreement "they could refer to the latter's brother". The price of the drug, instead, had been set at around 21/22 thousand euros per kilogram in Spain. «If I need it or how can you have me… and I closed the discussion». ( g.curcio@corrierecal.it )
