Gravano ratted because he feels Gotti was conspiring against him and turned his back on him after all the years of loyalty Gravano gave to him.
If that is true I do not blame Gravano when he was looking at life in prison and taking the fall for a man who betrayed him.
I think this is the reason why he has never been whacked after Pete passed away and John. No one else really gave a fuck that he fucked John over. I bet you most them probably sided with Sammy. Gotti also brought everything into public view. Ranking mobsters from New York’s five crime families have often cited Gotti’s larger-than-life approach to Mafia life as factors that helped authorities bring down the mob. The mob was already in trouble, even if Gotti never existed what happened to the mob was going to happen. Same for The RICO ACT. Castellano was on his second big trial. Gravano was a weakling who was afraid to go to prison. The past generations had it tougher, way tougher growing up leading to fewer rats--way fewer rats. John Pennisi Michael and Franzese would be considered girls in the 1940's. Gotti was no larger than life, he was covered larger than life life by a media working along with the government like never before. They publicized him to excess. Yes but with his flair nice Brioni suits and bravoure he was also an easy target. But It looked better than Gigante in his bathrobes.

Many mobsters was blamed because decided to flip for avoid long sentences but you would have the strenght to lost years of your life, left wife and children to stay in a cage? Some mobsters have sons in the mob so for them could be an incentive to keep the mouth shout but if a mobster dont have a wife or children what could gave him the force to endure the prison? Since you are asking Furio, if you joined a group on your own free will, and took an oath not to infomm if facing prison, would you have the strength to do the time? Hard to say but if my family would helped when I will stay in prison,so yes I'll do my time even if mean die in prison. Thank you for a straight answer. It's a good answer too.

Yeah ok, a guy is consipiring against you and wants to have you killed to save his own ass from prosecution and you are going to protect him by taking the fall instead? When you have given your life to protect his and do whatever was asked of you no questions asked for years and years?
Fuck that shit.
This has nothing to do with fucking up on your own and deserving to go to prison over something you in fact caused yourself by making a choice to be involved. You take it like a man and you do the time!
A guy that rats due to not wanting to face the consequence of being in the life is a piece of garbage and deserves to be whacked over it.
But a man who was loyal and murdered people for someone else's benefit doesn't deserve to go to prison due to that person throwing them under the bus to save their own ass. Yes Rush, but they always go after everyone, not a guy who wanted them killed. Plus, most if not all rats have an excuse that they were double-crossed, and it a lie. If a mob member wants another killed, the guy is dead. If he lives, what makes him rat out everyone, including friends? They are cowards, and don't have the strength. Plus they just want a deal, that is what it comes down to.

I don't buy Gravano's bullshit for one second.
He knew that nobody was more hated by the Feds or had a bigger target on his back than Gotti. As long as you can give up a bigger fish ,you can pretty much write your own ticket, and Gotti was a whale.
So Sammy puts on the whole "I was betrayed by John,I realized that he was trying to set me up to take the blame on murders he ordered" fairy tale.
Truth be told,he was never gonna take the fall. And if I may be more blunt,I believe that his Plan B all along, was that if he ever faced serious time,he always had a sacrificial lamb to lay on the altar of the FBI.
Just my 2 cents. Thats the best explanation (and the most logical) that I've heard on here about why Gravano flipped. He was a treacherous piece of shit, who jumped ship as soon as the feds came-a-callin. Period! ...Thats the long and the short of it!
