A WORKING MAN

Star Jason Statham and director David Ayer reteam for another collaboration. This time Statham plays Levon Cade, former Green Beret who now lives a quiet life as a construction worker. He's tight with his boss Joe (Michael Peña), Joe's wife Carla (Noemi Gonzalez), and their daughter Jenny (Arianna Rivas). After finishing her first semester at college Jenny convinces Joe to let her go out with her friends to celebrate the occasion. While out, Jenny is kidnapped and is to be sold into trafficking. Joe, knowing Levon's cliche "unique skill set," pleads for him to find his daughter before it's too late. After their surprise hit working together on THE BEEKEEPER, I was disappointed in their sophomore product between Statham and Ayer. The action scenes aren't as crisp or well done, the story is extremely paint-by-numbers, and there isn't anything memorable about it. It's not a bad film at all but it's not great either. Very average and not worth the theater's price of admission. Stick to the previously mentioned BEEKEEPER for better entertainment. 6/10
