Trump noncommittal on reducing newly announced tariffs for Israel

In response to a question about whether he plans to reduce the 17% tariffs he imposed on Israel, US President Donald Trump declined to commit to removing them. “Well, we’re talking about a whole new trade — maybe not,” “Maybe not.”

“Don’t forget, we help Israel a lot,” Trump said, as Netanyahu listened beside him to the implied criticism — Knows what side his bread's buttered on!
1. “We give Israel $4 billion a year, that’s a lot.”
2. “We give Israel billions of dollars a year. Billions. It’s one of the highest of anyone.
3. “We take good care of our friends, and we don’t take care of our enemies,”

We give a lot of countries money, you wouldn’t believe it.”

Mutual admiration falsity or not — but tariffs stand

Netanyahu says Israel working on new Gaza hostage deal; Trump praises his efforts, says Israelis want the hostages out ‘more than anything’

Speaking to reporters after meeting with US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that Israel is working on a new deal for a hostage release and ceasefire deal in Gaza “that we hope will succeed.”

Netanyahu says that they’re committed to getting all of the hostages released and eliminating Hamas from Gaza.

He tells reporters in the Oval Office: “We’re working now on another deal that we hope will succeed, and we’re committed to getting all the hostages out,”
Netanyahu adds that “the hostages are in agony, and we want to get them all out.”

He also spoke to Trump about the US president’s plan to move displaced Palestinians from Gaza while it’s redeveloped, which Netanyahu calls a “bold” vision.

Trump says the Gaza war will stop in the not-too-distant future.
1. “I’d like to see the war stop, and I think the war will stop at some point that won’t be in the too distant future.
2. Right now, we have a problem with hostages.
3. We’re trying to get the hostages out…. It’s a long process. It shouldn’t be that long.”

Trump says Netanyahu is working very hard to release the hostages, and he hopes Israelis appreciate his efforts.

1. “We are trying very hard to get the hostages out.
2. We are looking at another ceasefire; we’ll see what happens.
3. We want to get the hostages out.”
4. “the Israeli people want the hostages out. More than anything, they want the hostages out.
5. This man is working very hard with us to do that.
6. I don’t know, I hope he’s being appreciated because he’s been a great leader.
7. He’s working very, very hard on the hostages and many other things…
8. It’s a tough place in the world.”

Netanyahu interjects: “I have a good partner.”
Says Trump: “You do have a good partner, and so do we.”

Israeli reservists organise effort to oppose Gaza military service

according to Israeli media:
A group of Israeli reservist soldiers have been trying to organise an effort to express their rejection of continued fighting in the Gaza Strip

Kan national broadcaster, Times of Israel and other media reported:
The reservists are arguing that renewed fighting in the besieged enclave is for “political reasons”

Hundreds of air force reservists have reportedly been planning to issue a public letter calling to stop serving, but Israeli Air Force chief Tomer Bar and army chief Eyal Zamir have been trying to stop it from being published. The text of the letter has not been publicised.

When Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was originally trying to push his judicial overhauls, many reservists, especially those in the air force, were among those who refused to serve.

Hamas: Intensified Israeli attacks on Gaza ‘brutal revenge against innocent civilians’

The Palestinian group says the increasing intensity of Israeli attacks on the enclave:
“is not just military pressure, but rather brutal revenge against innocent civilians” — October 7 was not?

It called on the international community to do its part, to stop the Israeli violence. — How about you doing your part:
1. release the hostages
2. and stop your terror violence

Hamas said in a statement published on Telegram
1. “Increasing the pace of aggression will not break the will of our people,
2. but rather raise the level of defiance, stubbornness, and determination to confront the aggression,”

“Netanyahu’s policy of revenge against children, women, and the elderly is not a plan to achieve a supposed victory, but rather a recipe for inevitable failure.”

The group also warned:
1. the military escalation would not return Israeli captives alive.
2. “It threatens their lives and kills them.
3. Their return is only possible through negotiation,”

Top US commander meets with military, security leaders across region

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reports that its chief Michael Kurilla spent the past few days holding high-level meetings with counterparts from Israel, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and the United Arab Emirates.

The Pentagon said US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth discussed in a phone call with his Egyptian counterpart the importance of Red Sea security and the “reckless” actions of Yemen’s Houthis.

The meetings come as:
1. Israel’s blockade on Gaza shows no signs of stopping,
2. the US military bombs areas across Yemen to devastating effect,
3. and while the US and Israel continue to threaten to bomb Iran if it fails to agree a deal, on its nuclear programme and regional influence.

Far-left Argentine lawmaker indicted for antisemitic, anti-Israel posts

An Argentine federal judge has indicted a far left lawmaker, Vanina Biasi, from the Workers’ Party (Partido Obrero) for a series of posts she wrote on X:
1. comparing Israel with the Nazi regime,
2. and calling Israel a “genocide state.”

According to Judge Daniel Rafecas, Biasi’s statements:
1. “constitute a discriminatory act that incites hatred against the Jewish community,”
2. are antisemitic
3. and exceed the limits of freedom of expression.

He says: “An analysis of the posts show that her statements cannot be considered mere criticisms directed at the temporary authorities of the Israeli government for their actions or circumstantial policies.”

He adds:
1. her posts were marked with antisemitic content,
2. characterizing the State of Israel (and not just its government) and Zionism as genocidal and Nazis.

The judge decides to freeze her assets, valued at 10 million pesos (around $9,300), for any future legal proceedings or fines that could be incurred.

Rafecas, who is not Jewish, has written a book on the Holocaust and was a visiting fellow at Yad Vashem.

Hamas spokesman Jihad Taha says, following Sunday night rocket salvo "Hamas 'cannot agree to the dismantling of the Palestinian resistance'"

Taha, claimed in a Sunday interview with Al Jazeera after the terror group launched rockets at Ashdod and Ashkelon
Hamas has "capabilities that should raise concern in Israel," panic in US and World too CENTCOM

Taha justified the shooting in the wake of "the ongoing series of crimes and massacres against the Palestinians.

He added that the international community is "silent in the face of Israel."

This proves that the extremist fascist government of Israel continues its policy of carrying out massacres.
Therefore, it is incumbent on the resistance to defend our people against the series of Zionist crimes and massacres.

In his speech, he mentioned National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's ascent to the Temple Mount
1. "As long as Israel is on Palestinian land and commits massacres,
2. confiscates land in the West Bank, equips settlements,
3. and defiles holy places - as Ben-Gvir did in al-Aqsa Mosque"

"Then we cannot agree to the dismantling of the Palestinian resistance, which is fighting these crimes and massacres."

Qatari-based council: ‘Armed Jihad against Israel an obligation’ mad

The fatwa issued by a clerical council belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood
1. describes Israel as an “infidel enemy”,
2. deems armed Jihad against Israel ‘incumbent upon all Muslims.'

The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUSM) has released a sweeping fatwa
1. calling for waging “armed Jihad” against Israel
2. and religiously banning normalization of ties.

This pronouncement, which appeared on the organization's official website and the official X / Twitter account of its president, Sheikh Ali Al-Qaradaghi, represents a striking theological stance promoted by an international Islamist organization during the current Gaza conflict.

Headquartered in Doha with additional presence in Istanbul and claiming to represent tens of thousands of religious scholars from across the globe, the IUSM was established in 2004 by Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradawi, a notorious and revered cleric sick
1. who led the Muslim Brotherhood axis
2. and was made known for his endorsement and promotion of Hamas’s suicide bombings against Israeli civilians.

Earlier this week, the Union’s “Ijtihad and Fatwa Committee” crafted the edict addressing what they termed "the ongoing aggression against Gaza."

The declaration makes several extensive demands, including appeals for
1. a thorough besieging of Israel "by land, sea, and air"
2. while encouraging "prompt military intervention by Islamic countries" to bolster Palestinian armed struggle
3. across multiple dimensions – military campaigns, economic areas, and the diplomatic arena.

The religious scholars cited Hamas’s casualty statistics in Gaza, which are claimed to exceed 50,000, describing the situation as "methodical genocide conducted with explicit backing from the United States, amidst Arab quietude and passivity from nations across the Islamic world."

On the economic front, the council strengthened previous positions
1. endorsing boycotts of "enterprises that support the Zionist entity,"
2. and declaring that affluent Muslims must "participate in jihad through financial means and equip militants."

The theological directive elaborates on what it considers duties for Muslims at varying levels of proximity to the conflict.

Strikingly, the fatwa deems “the enemy”, meaning Israel, a Kafir, or infidel, in stark contrast to some other traditional views of Islam towards Judaism as part of the “People of the Book.”

The council's stance extends to commercial measures as well, proclaiming it religiously forbidden to furnish Israel with "petroleum, natural gas, and all commodities that assist in their military campaign," including "nourishment and beverages while Gaza's population faces starvation."

Among the more politically ambitious elements of the ruling is a call for Arab and Islamic countries to "form a consolidated military coalition to safeguard Islamic territories," which the council characterizes as "an imperative obligation that permits no postponement."

The fatwa also deals with geopolitical aspects, calling on nations maintaining diplomatic connections with Israel to "reassess these agreements and exert pressure accordingly,” and explicitly forbidding "normalization with the Zionist occupying entity in any form.

Despite the IUMS’s wide-reaching influence and central role in the world of Islamist movements, others were more hesitant towards the edict.

For instance, Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta, the country’s Islamic advisory and governmental body, claimed that, according to Sharia,
"those who call for armed Jihad must also take part in it personally"

adding that "the call for jihad without taking into account the capabilities of the nation and its political, military and economic reality is an irresponsible call that contradicts the principles of Islamic law."

‘Proof that Hamas is backed by international bodies’ sick International Axis of Evil terror

Dr. Nesya Shemer, an expert in Sharia and Jewish-Islamic relations, explained to the Jerusalem Post that
1. "the fatwa calling for armed Jihad against Israel is an example of Fard ‘Ayn, a religious obligation incumbent upon each and every Muslim wherever they are."
2. “This means that the IUMS views Jihad against Israel as a ‘defensive Jihad’ aimed at fending off foes from the homeland which is to be ruled by Islam,”

Shemer elaborated, adding that in their view,
1. Palestine had been under Islamic rule since the 7th century and up until the British mandate
2. and thus should be ‘retrieved.’

“This is opposed to offensive Jihad regarded as Fard Kifayah, an obligation incumbent upon the Islamic nation as a whole, in which a representative force of Muslims would suffice,” she explained.

When asked about the meaning of the new fatwa, Shemer stressed that it continues the line led by the IUMS since the beginning of the war.

“While the immediate implications of this fatwa are not yet fully clear, there is growing fear that the fatwa will expand to become a global religious war against Jews all around the world, in a manner which will directly impact the lives of Jewish communities abroad,” Shemer elaborated.

“Moreover, the war and the images circulating in the media could affect public opinion in Israel’s bordering countries, which would affect the stability of the regimes in them,”

Shemer continued. “However, with all due respect, neither these fatwas nor the perception of our neighboring regimes should guide Israel in its quest to defeat Hamas and its supporters worldwide.” confused

Shemer concluded
1. “This fatwa illustrates how Hamas is not just a small terrorist organization operating from Gaza,
2. but rather one that is backed by international Muslim bodies and organizations that advocate for the same ideology."

"Dealing with Hamas is, in fact, dealing with that same Islamist ideology, which is international and widespread within the Muslim world.”

Is Al Jazeera losing credibility among its once-loyal audience?

'They Ruined Our Lives': Why Palestinians in Gaza Are Now Taking Aim at Al Jazeera

Al Jazeera's coverage of the war, its glorification of Hamas and its depiction of Palestinians as helpless victims, has eroded the widespread popularity that the Qatari channel once enjoyed.

'They turned us into statistics rather than real people,' says one Gazan.

Palestinians in Gaza and beyond have begun referring to the Qatari news outlet as "Al Khanzeera" – the Arabic word for pig that rhymes with its name.

Elise Stefanik [was] Trump's UN Enforcer, and a Gift to Netanyahu Called UN a "cesspool of antisemitism"

Israel's loss:
Stefanik's nomination as the US ambassador to the UN was pulled, to protect the Republicans' razor-thin majority No more grin
They retained both their seats, in the Florida special election, majority now 220 to 213 with two Democrat vacancies

When President Donald Trump withdrew Representative Elise Stefanik’s nomination to be US ambassador to the United Nations, according to two Republican sources with knowledge of the deliberations, she was given private assurances that:
1. she would not only rejoin the House GOP leadership team,
2. but also reclaim her coveted spot on the House Intelligence Committee,

Two weeks later, the conundrum for Speaker Mike Johnson, still scrambling to figure out how to deliver on the promise to place her back on the committee, even after the move was announced publicly Wednesday.

Macron rewarding terrorism

Macron says France could recognise Palestinian state ‘We must move towards recognition, and we will do so in the coming months,’

President Emmanuel Macron says France could recognise a Palestinian state “in the coming months”.

Macron told France 5 television on Wednesday that he aimed to finalise the move at a United Nations conference on the Israel-Palestine conflict, which his country will co-chair with Saudi Arabia in June.

“We must move towards recognition, and we will do so in the coming months,” Macron said.
“I’m not doing it to please anyone. I’ll do it because at some point it will be right,” he said.

Where is this "Palestinian state"?

Palestine’s minister of state for foreign affairs, Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, told the news agency Agence France-Presse AFP that:
France’s recognition would be “a step in the right direction in line with safeguarding the rights of the Palestinian people and the two-state solution”.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said: any “unilateral recognition” of a Palestinian state would be a “boost for Hamas”. True

He wrote on X: “A ‘unilateral recognition’ of a fictional Palestinian state, by any country, in the reality that we all know,
1. will be a prize for terror
2. and a boost for Hamas,”
3. “These kind of actions will not bring peace, security and stability in our region closer —
4. but the opposite: they only push them further away,”

What "Palestinian state"?
Palestine has been recognised as a sovereign state by 146 out of 193 UN members so far, with Armenia, Slovenia, Ireland, Norway, Spain, the Bahamas, Trinidad, and Tobago, Jamaica, and Barbados joining their ranks last year.

However, despite growing international support for Palestinian statehood, several major Western countries like the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom and Germany have withheld recognition.

Macron said that he foresaw a “collective dynamic”, enabling some countries in the Middle East to recognise the Israeli state in turn.
Countries that do not recognise Israel include Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.

Macron said that recognising Palestine as a state would allow France:
1. “to be clear, in our fight against those who deny Israel’s right to exist, which is the case with Iran,
2. and to commit ourselves to collective security in the region”.

France has long championed a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict, continuing its policy after the October 7, 2023, attack by Palestinian armed group Hamas on Israel.

But formal recognition by Paris of a Palestinian state would mark a major policy switch and could antagonise Israel, which insists such moves by foreign states are premature. True

On a recent trip to Egypt, Macron held talks with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II, making it clear he was strongly opposed:
1. to any displacement or annexation in Gaza
2. and the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Trump please slap France with double China tariff 250%

Biden’s Mideast czar Brett McGurk was one of the architects of the ceasefire and hostage release deal that was inked in January between Israel and Hamas.
The agreement fell apart after two months, but US President Donald Trump — who helped finalize the accord before entering office — is working to revive it.

“Don’t start a war with Israel.”
That is the lesson of Hamas’s October 7 onslaught and the Gaza conflict that has ensued, according to former US president Joe Biden’s Mideast czar McGurk.

McGurk gave the succinct response on the sidelines of a conference in Abu Dhabi when asked by The Times of Israel what historical lessons might be drawn from the past 18 months in Gaza.

the former Middle East and North Africa Coordinator of the White House National Security Council asserted:
“Don’t start a war with Israel. It won’t work out well for you. That’s the lesson,”

“Ask Sinwar, Nasrallah or Khamenei how they’re doing today compared to October 6,” he added, referring to the leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah who were killed by Israel last year, along with the supreme leader of Iran, which has sustained significant blows over the 18 months.

Day 552 Nasrallah, Sinwar and others -- champagne corks popping!

Have you asked the:
1. hostages
2. families of the dead hostages
3. innocent civilians All sides
4. horrifically wounded soldiers
5. families of soldiers returning in coffins
6. antisemitism victims around the world

While only speaking briefly, the senior Biden aide’s answer indicated his rejection of efforts to scrutinize Israel’s offensive in Gaza more than the attack that provoked it.

US President Joe Biden’s administration did at times break with Israel over the latter’s prosecution of the war in Gaza, speaking out over repeated dips in the amount of humanitarian aid entering the Strip and peaks in the number of civilian casualties.

However, Biden also
1. dispatched aircraft carriers to the Middle East in order to deter Iran and its proxies;
2. sent billions of dollars in military assistance to Israel;
3. helped thwart a pair of Iranian missile attacks;
4. blocked a host of anti-Israel resolutions at the United Nations;
5. and refused to single out Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the main obstacle in the hostage talks,
6. insisting that Hamas was the main source of blame amid months of stagnation.

McGurk was arguably the most important figure in shaping Biden’s policy in the war, which withstood pressure from US progressives who wanted to take a harder line against Israel.

He was also one of the main hostage negotiators on behalf of the US and joined forces with Donald Trump’s Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff after last November’s US presidential election in order to bring the deal over the finish line.

After holding senior national security roles in successive administrations since former president George W. Bush — including a brief stint during Trump’s first term — McGurk left government in January, taking positions at Harvard’s Kennedy School and the Lux venture capital firm.

Hamas calls on UK government to remove it from list of banned terrorist groups
The Palestinian Islamist organisation, which launched deadly 7 October attacks on Israel, says it is a ‘resistance movement’ and no threat to Britain

The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas has submitted a legal filing saying it should be removed from the UK government’s list of proscribed terrorist groups.

Hamas, which carried out the 7 October 2023 attacks on southern Israel, in which more than 1,200 people, mainly civilians, were killed and a further 250 taken hostage, is arguing that it is not a terrorist group but “a Palestinian Islamic liberation and resistance movement whose goal is to liberate Palestine and confront the Zionist project”. — by terrorism

The assertion is contained in a witness statement by Mousa Abu Marzouk, head of international relations for Hamas and the applicant for the claim to the UK home secretary, Yvette Cooper, published by Drop Site News.

His statement continued: “The British government’s decision to proscribe Hamas is an unjust one that is symptomatic of its unwavering support for Zionism, apartheid, occupation and ethnic cleansing in Palestine for over a century.

Hamas does not and never has posed a threat to Britain, despite the latter’s ongoing complicity in the genocide of our people.”

The Home Office said it did not comment on proscription matters.

Hamas’s military wing, Hamas IDQ was proscribed by the UK in 2001

In 2021 its political wing which runs Gaza, was also proscribed, with the UK government describing the distinction between the two wings as “artificial” and labelling Hamas “a complex but single terrorist organisation”.

If an organisation is proscribed as a terrorist organisation it is a criminal offence to, among other things,
1. belong to it,
2. show or express support for it,
3. and wear clothing or carry or display articles in public
4. which would arouse reasonable suspicion that the individual is a member or supporter of it.

In a document provided to Drop Site summarising its legal arguments, Hamas’s legal team reportedly said it represented the group pro bono because it would be illegal to accept payment.

It quotes the lawyers as saying: “Hamas does not deny that its actions fall within the wide definition of ‘terrorism’ under the Terrorism Act 2000.

Instead, it notes that the definition also covers all groups and organisations around the world that use violence to achieve political objectives, including the Israeli armed forces, the Ukrainian army and indeed the British armed forces.”

Terrorism is defined in the act as the use of or threat of action, including serious violence against a person or damage to property, where it is “designed to influence the government or an international governmental organisation or to intimidate the public or a section of the public, and must be undertaken for the purpose of advancing a political, religious, racial or ideological cause”.

Hamas is represented by Riverway Law. proscribe "Riverway Law" as terrorists

The lawyers state: “Rather than allow freedom of speech, police have embarked on a campaign of political intimidation and persecution of journalists, academics, peace activists and students over their perceived support for Hamas.

People in Britain must be free to speak about Hamas and its struggle to restore to the Palestinian people the right to self-determination.”
Quote
Freedom of speech comes with responsibilities and obligations Respect and value this privilege

They argue proscription is contrary to Britain’s obligations under international law to prevent genocide and crimes against humanity, and end Israel’s illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories. It says Hamas is the “only effective military force resisting” such acts. — by terrorism

Priti Patel, the shadow foreign secretary, said:
“Hamas is an evil Iranian-backed terrorist organisation, which kidnaps, tortures and murders people, including British nationals.

1. They pose an ongoing threat to our security
2. and to the peace and stability of the Middle East
3. and they have weapons and training facilities that put lives at risk and threaten our interests.

They show no respect for human rights, life and dignity and have oppressed people living in Gaza for too long.”

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan spoke at the Arab League summit in Turkey, addressing efforts to achieve a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.

The minister said that:
1. the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza cannot be contingent on a cease-fire
2. and this "goes against all the foundations of international law."

Farhan added that the conference "is committed to peace, and not just peace in Gaza, but also to a comprehensive and sustainable peace path that will ensure the security of Israel, while ensuring the rights of the Palestinians and within the framework of their independent state." — More empty words

Palestinian Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa addressed Israeli actions in the West Bank, saying that "both in the West Bank and in Jerusalem, the Israeli army and settlers are using aggression."

Mustafa thanked the efforts of Muslim countries "to promote the two-state solution, and he appreciates everyone who recognized the Palestinian state in recent months in Europe."

He went on to say that "we, the Palestinians, are doing everything in our power to reunite the West Bank and Gaza under one Palestinian existence – under the leadership of the PLO and the Palestinian Authority – in preparation for the embodiment of the independent Palestinian state as a reality on the ground."

French president clarifies his country's position on the recognition of a Palestinian State

I’m reading all sorts of things here about our intentions for Gaza. Here is France’s position—it is clear:

1. Yes to peace.
2. Yes to Israel’s security.
3. Yes to a Palestinian state without Hamas.

France's President Emmanuel Macron clarified his country's position on the recognition of a Palestinian state, saying: "Yes to a Palestinian state without Hamas."
"This requires the release of all hostages, a lasting cease-fire, the immediate resumption of humanitarian aid, and the pursuit of a political two-state solution,"

On Wednesday, Macron said that France could recognize a Palestinian state in June, adding that, in turn, some countries in the Middle East could recognize the State of Israel.

Why is it, Macron almost always has to clarify his comments, his position...

Hundreds of IDF reservists from special forces signed a letter, supporting Israeli air force reservists, set to be dismissed from active service after calling for an end to the war in Gaza. — letting them off the hook...

The letter's authors said that 1,552 special force reservists have signed it so far and that about 16 percent of them are in active reserve service.
The letter clarifies that the signatories will continue to serve in the reserves — How with this attitude?

but are "determined to exercise their civil rights and to warn against the continuation of the long fighting that also seems to be continuing for political reasons."
1. endangers the lives of the hostages,
2. the lives of soldiers and civilians

Soldiers are required to steer clear of politics, and they rarely speak out against the army.

If true, Netanyahu is sending other people's children to war while keeping his, away
While both sons served in the mandatory military service, Yair 33 and Avner 30 it seems, no active combat duty, in the current Gaza war of 18 months
