The man who was liquidated on the terrace of a Rijswijk hotel on Thursday evening is said to be a notorious Turkish murder suspect who had made many enemies. It concerns Cemil Önal, who is suspected of being the mastermind behind the murder of a gambling boss in Turkish-controlled Northern Cyprus. Önal is also said to have been in possession of tapes with compromising images of high-ranking Turkish politicians from President Erdogan's party.

The perpetrator went straight for his target and shot his victim decisively, at close range, according to eyewitnesses. He ran away after the attack.
