@NYMafia. Them 2 made? Think I've seen the Frankie 500 mentioned in someone's biography.
Whose side were they on in the war and was that why it happened? Catch their killer's? ( don't have to answer seeing as I should pay ) Gaetano D'Angelo and Frank Telleri were both so-called "made" guys. James D'Angelo was not. Technically speaking, Jimmy was employed as a liquor salesman for a mobbed-up wholesale liquor and wine company out of Brooklyn. But he was also suspected of dabbling in bookmaking and numbers as a sideline. Plus, he was Smitty's brother and known to be very close to him, so Jimmy could be viewed as a Family associate. As far as why it happened? D'Angelo and Telleri had jumped over to the rebel DiGregorio camp. Subsequently they took their men and rackets along with them. It was costing Joe Bonanno prestige and money by them leaving his camp. Not to mention the fact that Smitty D'Angelo was known to be a "serious" guy, capable of whacking out the opposition (Joe Bonanno's faction). So, for all the above stated reasons, (and a few more, I'm sure), he and his partner Telleri had to go! Jimmy D'Angelo just turned out to be collateral damage.

If I'm not mistaken, I also believe there was a rumor going around that shortly before his death, Smitty had been moved into the 'consigliere' spot by DiGregorio. So right there is another reason why Joe Bonanno would have targeted him. They weren't killing everybody on the street opposing them, Joe was trying surgical strikes against those in leadership posts.
