New troubles for Giovanni Luppino, Messina Denaro's driver. The sixty-year-old from Campobello di Mazara, sentenced to 9 years and 3 months for aiding and abetting, was reached in prison by a new precautionary custody order.

Luppino and 4 other people (3 of whom are subject to pre-trial detention in prison and 2 of the measure of the obligation to remain at home with a requirement to report to the judicial police) must answer, to varying degrees, for the crimes of mafia association, illegal possession of weapons, attempted extortion and personal aiding and abetting. In particular, Luppino, would have been responsible for an attempted extortion against an entrepreneur in the oil sector, with the aim of guaranteeing financial support to the former boss of Castelvetrano.

The investigation, conducted by the Carabinieri of the Trapani investigative unit and coordinated by the Palermo district anti-mafia directorate, shed light on the attempt to acquire serious evidence regarding the convergence of illicit interests of leading members of the Partanna mafia family (Castelvetrano district) and entrepreneurs operating in the construction and oil sectors, for the control of the territory and local business activities.

They are accused of interfering in the competitive procedure announced by the Court of Sciacca for the acquisition of an industrial warehouse; conditioning in the awarding of public contracts in favor of the same suspects and other individuals close to the mafia organization; intimidation and pressure on entrepreneurs to hire family members in local olive oil companies; imposition, intimidating acts and threats for the resolution of disputes between private individuals.

Lawyer Giuseppe Accardo specifies that «the video reproduction of the Olive Accardo table olive production plant of Mr. Giuseppe Accardo, located in Partanna in the Corvo district, is totally unrelated to the matter».
