Milder sentences for crystal meth lab suspects in Friesland and Groningen
The court in Leeuwarden on Friday imposed prison sentences of between one and two years on four suspects for involvement in a drug lab in Kootstertille (Friesland) and Grootegast (Groningen). Three other suspects will receive community service and suspended prison sentences.

On February 26, 2021, following a TCI (Criminal Intelligence Team) report, an operational drug lab was discovered in Kootstertille. The police found 94 kilos of crystal meth and 120 liters of raw materials in a shed in the town. During the investigation, suspicions arose of another drug lab in Grootegast, where remains of a drug lab were found in a barn in that village on March 10, 2021. Ultimately, eight suspects were identified.

The owner of the shed in Kootstertille has been convicted of involvement in the drug lab in Friesland. He and others were guilty of intentionally having methamphetamine on February 26, 2021, by making part of his shed on an industrial estate in Friesland available as a drug lab.

The owner of the shed in Grootegast has been convicted of involvement in both drug labs. The man first made his shed in the Groningen countryside available for the production of synthetic drugs (methamphetamine and MDMA). He was then also guilty of complicity in the production of methamphetamine at the other drug lab in Friesland.

Mexican chef
A 51-year-old Mexican suspect has been convicted of involvement in both drug labs. As a cook, he played an important role in the production of crystal meth and MDMA. The Mexican used a Sky ECC device.

A fourth suspect and his housemate (the Mexican cook) were guilty of producing methamphetamine in the drug lab in Friesland on February 26, 2021.

Two other suspects were convicted for involvement in both drug labs. According to the court, both suspects played an important facilitating role in the production of methamphetamine and MDMA and used a crypto phone (with the Sky application). They arranged the cook, locations, transport and raw materials.

A seventh suspect was convicted for involvement in the production of methamphetamine in the drug lab in Friesland. He had frequent contact with the owner of the warehouse where the drug lab was found. He also transported co-suspects to the location. He also brought drug-related goods to the warehouse (on orders).
