I don't start many treads but I thought this is going to be something big.


The Chinese Government are urging the directors of UNOCAL Crop an American Oil Company, to accept their $18.5 Billion takeover bid. Even though Chevron an American company had an offer in with about 2 Billion dollars less.

Some congressmen are yelling that it would threaten the U.S. Security and should be stopped.

If approved, the transaction would put vital oil assets in the Gulf Of Mexico and Alaska directly into the hands of a company controlled by the government of China.

What do you think? With Oil and Gas becoming a major issue in the world today. Should we let them come here and buy up America's supplies with their dollars?

China friend or foe? Fair trade and free enterprise against protecting the American way of life and security?

Is UNOCAL a public company? If so, the board has a responsibility to the shareholders to take the best deal. Additionally, this country is a capitalist one. I find it ironic that a communist country is trying to teach one of our companies about taking the highest bid. Other things come to mind - a higher offer is not necessarily a better one. There may be contingencies, financing terms, closing dates, etc. that may make the higher offer less attractive. However, if all other areas are equal, then I would think that they have to take the higher offer. If they are a private company, then they can sell to whoever they darn please.

An American making reference to an overseas country which isn't Iraq. Are you feeling alright?

Well, not all Americans are dumb and you know that.

It's sad when you think about it, but all it would take to shut down this country is an oil hi-jack.

That is right. They are taking over some banks and I think they took over IMB computers. Maybe that is what we should have done over there in the Middle East. For what it cost us to invade and hold the place, we could of gone over there and bought the place.
