I know it was 2 brothers, and they invented the cheesesteak, and the older brother was Pat, and he died a number of years ago. Beyond that, I can't remember what the article was about. Maybe the other brother died now. Hmmmmm...my brain must be going soft... Nah, your brain is not soft. It's just old age. Here ya go : Pat's Steaks Co-Founder Dies At 90 (CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA South Philadelphia is mourning the loss of a man who helped make "cheesesteak" a household word.
Restaurant icon Harry Olivieri, who, with his brother, turned Pat's Steaks into a Philadelphia landmark, passed away at the age of 90 in an Atlantic County Hospital.
During lunch in 1930, Pat Olivieri decided he wanted something a little different than the typical hot dogs he’d serve at his south Philadelphia stand.
By grilling steak and onions and placing it all on an Italian roll, he created an immensely popular sandwich, but when he added cheese to it a number of years later, it became an infamous Philadelphia staple.
Harry Olivieri, Pat’s brother, assisted him in creating the world-famous Pat’s King Of Steaks restaurant near 9th and Wharton Streets that still stands today.
“This is the originator of the steak sandwich, you know. It all started here, so Harry has that claim,” said Tom Francano.
The restaurant has attracted everyone from celebrities, to politicians, but the regulars that will miss Harry Oliveri most.
“Part of a legacy, part of a puzzle that’s missing. I’m pretty sure it’s going to affect the community a lot and Pat’s, but I think they’ll keep on shelling out those good steaks,” said Rodney Woodland.

I don't care so much about the Liberty Bell or The Mint, although I'll go with the flow. However, the Italian Open Air Market sounds good. Is there food there?? :p Btw, is Geno's the place that's been in the news lately regarding the "English" only rule? Or am I thinking of another place? Anyway, yea, everything sounds good to me. I love vacations. I just got a letter from our District saying I have excess vacation time accumulated and need to use 4 weeks (this is on top of having 3 weeks for Xmas, 2 for spring break & the month of July off ). So, dammit, I have to use the excess by next June. I love it!!!! TIS

The Mint is only open till 5 on friday and closed on saturday. So I'll probably do it myself when I get to Philly on friday. Now Pat's is right at the bottom of the Italian Market. Most seem to want to go to the Italian Market. Geoff has indicated that he would like to do Pat's, and it looks as though many of the others want to also. So maybe we should do the Italian Market on Saturday morning and hit Pat's while we are there by lunchtime. Start address: Hilton Garden Inn 1100 Arch St End address: S 9th St & Wharton St Italian Market Distance: 1.8 mi (about 5 mins) Head west from Arch St - Turn left at N 12th St - Continue on S 12th St - Turn left at Wharton St - Arrive at S 9th St & Wharton St Of course everyone has a right to do and see what they want to see during the day and no one should feel obligated to do something that they really don't want to do because others are doing it. And by the same token no one should deprive themselves of seeing or doing something that they want to do during the day just because everyone else is not interested. But come evening, I say that we MUST have dinner and drinks together no matter what! Yes TIS, Geno's is the place that's been in the news lately. Don Cardi
