Oh yeah, sorry - Yuengling is a popular regional beer, from “America’s Oldest Brewery”.

Where there're martinis, there're blue drinks

Yeungling's is the oldest existing brewer in the United States, located in Pottsville, PA since 1829. Its most popular brew is a very good lager.

I don't know anything about the LV Lounge, but will ask my Philly friends. I'd love to drop by, but I'm actually in Pittsburgh that weekend with family. Have a Yuengling's in my honor.

I wish it didn't have to be, but I won't be able to make it to the Convention.

Make sure to take plenty of pics for me.

Well, if SC's not coming, I'd better at least get to see the Liberty Bell. I don't want to drive all the way to Philly and not at least see the Liberty Bell.

I want to go to the MINT. Back in May of 2002 I chaperoned a school trip to Philly with my son's school. But becuase of the events of September 11th, the MINT was not allowing any tours. So this time I am going to make it my business to see the MINT.

Whats up everyone.....Does anyone know the name of the song the old man sang at Connie's wedding in the 1st godfather, not johnnie fontaine, the old man. I figured this would be the best place to ask, I've been trying to find out the name with absolutely no luck.

I remember going to the mint (any reason you had it in caps, DC??) on a 7th grade school trip. It was pretty cool. I also want to go to the Italian open air market (have I mentioned this before? Am I harping on it a bit?) because it sounds like fun, and we can take photos of JG picking out oranges as the hit men approach....And, most of all, there's a Pat's there, and we can get cheesesteaks. Maybe we should arrive earlier than we said and get some touring in before we hit the bar.

I may have mentioned this in my Caribbean Trip topic. When I was on my crusie I met some people who were from Philly. One gentleman told me that Genos is better than Pats. Of course it is a matter of taste. So maybe we'll have to get a couple of Cheesesteaks from Pats and a couple from Genos and do our own little taste test!

I just read an article about the founders of Pat's, but damned if I can remember what it was about. I know it was 2 brothers, and they invented the cheesesteak, and the older brother was Pat, and he died a number of years ago. Beyond that, I can't remember what the article was about. Maybe the other brother died now. Hmmmmm...my brain must be going soft...

Nah, your brain is not soft. It's just old age.

Here ya go :

Pat's Steaks Co-Founder Dies At 90
(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA South Philadelphia is mourning the loss of a man who helped make "cheesesteak" a household word.

Restaurant icon Harry Olivieri, who, with his brother, turned Pat's Steaks into a Philadelphia landmark, passed away at the age of 90 in an Atlantic County Hospital.

During lunch in 1930, Pat Olivieri decided he wanted something a little different than the typical hot dogs he’d serve at his south Philadelphia stand.

By grilling steak and onions and placing it all on an Italian roll, he created an immensely popular sandwich, but when he added cheese to it a number of years later, it became an infamous Philadelphia staple.

Harry Olivieri, Pat’s brother, assisted him in creating the world-famous Pat’s King Of Steaks restaurant near 9th and Wharton Streets that still stands today.

“This is the originator of the steak sandwich, you know. It all started here, so Harry has that claim,” said Tom Francano.

The restaurant has attracted everyone from celebrities, to politicians, but the regulars that will miss Harry Oliveri most.

“Part of a legacy, part of a puzzle that’s missing. I’m pretty sure it’s going to affect the community a lot and Pat’s, but I think they’ll keep on shelling out those good steaks,” said Rodney Woodland.

Wow, all of a sudden we have things to do besides eat and drink!

I say we hit Pat's or Geno's on Friday night, before we go out drinking. Then hit the other one Saturday for lunch.

I don't care so much about the Liberty Bell or The Mint, although I'll go with the flow. However, the Italian Open Air Market sounds good. Is there food there?? :p

Btw, is Geno's the place that's been in the news lately regarding the "English" only rule? Or am I thinking of another place?

Anyway, yea, everything sounds good to me. I love vacations. I just got a letter from our District saying I have excess vacation time accumulated and need to use 4 weeks (this is on top of having 3 weeks for Xmas, 2 for spring break & the month of July off ). So, dammit, I have to use the excess by next June. I love it!!!!

The Mint is only open till 5 on friday and closed on saturday. So I'll probably do it myself when I get to Philly on friday.

Now Pat's is right at the bottom of the Italian Market. Most seem to want to go to the Italian Market. Geoff has indicated that he would like to do Pat's, and it looks as though many of the others want to also. So maybe we should do the Italian Market on Saturday morning and hit Pat's while we are there by lunchtime.

Start address: Hilton Garden Inn 1100 Arch St

End address: S 9th St & Wharton St Italian Market

Distance: 1.8 mi (about 5 mins)

Head west from Arch St - Turn left at N 12th St - Continue on S 12th St - Turn left at Wharton St - Arrive at S 9th St & Wharton St

Of course everyone has a right to do and see what they want to see during the day and no one should feel obligated to do something that they really don't want to do because others are doing it. And by the same token no one should deprive themselves of seeing or doing something that they want to do during the day just because everyone else is not interested.

But come evening, I say that we MUST have dinner and drinks together no matter what!

Yes TIS, Geno's is the place that's been in the news lately.

Hey, wait for me!! The Italian market was MY idea!!

We can come down earlier, and head over there with you guys. Let's just reverse the order - Pat's first, and then the market. Would that be ok?? We could get down there late morning (ok, by 11 or 12. You'll all be sleeping late anyway) and then head to Pat's with all of you. Pleeeeeeeease!!!

What's it worth to you? We'll have to think about it because after a BIG Dinner on Friday Night at SHULA's, we may be too full to have Cheesesteaks early the next day!
:p

Fine by me.
