Presuming that everyone who voted so far is a fairly regular user, what I find most interesting is that 6 out of the 17 who voted (35%) would not be willing to pay even a nominal amount to remain a member.

People pay for magazine subscriptions and PPV television programming. On the internet, they pay to play fantasy sports games, they pay for dating and "matchmaking" services, and they pay for pornography.

I realize that there's a built in cost associated with internet use; payments that go to a cable TV company, or a telephone company, but this money does not find its way into the pockets of those who provide the content that makes us willing to absorb those initial costs in the first place.

Please understand that I'm not suggesting that any of those who said that they wouldn't be willing to pay do pay for any of the above, but I can't understand why someone would not be willing - assuming that they could afford it - to pay $1 a month to support a site that they use regularly.
