While I'd agree that the world is more or less going to hell anyway, I see no need to speed the process up with a nuclear holocaust.

If it happens, it happens, but what's the rush?

Yeah, we have messed it up, and with a lot more than war and poverty..

But I, for one, still "need" it.

When my time comes, it'll come, but until it does I intend to enjoy what there is of life that I can.

If that were true, then we wouldn't paying such high prices for heating oil, crude oil and gasoline.

I remember when we went into Iraq, so many people on here and around the world started with the "we went in for the oil" remarks. Now here we are, three years later, paying high prices for oil and gasoline. I guess that ridiculous theory has been shot to shit.

Here's a lesson for you :

The largest producing region of the world for oil is The Middle East at 29%. North America was next at 19%, Eastern Europe at 14%, Africa at 12%, Aisia and Oceana at 10% Western Europe at 8% and Central and South America at 8%.

Iraq contributes about 3% of the total 29% produced by the middle east. Which would make them alone about a 1% oil producer in the world. After figuring in their own consumption of the oil produced in Iraq, that would bring the figure down to about 1/2% for the rest of the world.

I highly doubt that we would invade a country to take over 1/2% of the total world's oil supply.

And tell me, how many of those oil producing countries from the list above have we invaded recently for their oil?

Russia has probably the world's largest reserves of Natural Gas but I don't see us invading Russia for thier oil any time soon.

Now who's being narrow minded?

I am not going to get into the "we shouldn't have went in," etc. debate. God knows there are plenty of topics already here on the boards if one wants to debate that.

A comment was made that we only invade countries based on their oil production, and I provided fact which anyone with a half of brain could see clearly dispells that theory.

I've provided you with fact here. Look at the percentages of the oil producing nations and do the math. It doesn't take a genius to realize that the ridiculous theory that we went in there for the oil is a weak one.

Well a President with half a brain has clearly conned you, DC.

The Iraq war was about power and money, yes through oil, but also through the generous constuction contracts given to American firms to "rebuild" Iraq, and the other opportunities for capitalist exploitation that conquest and installation of an America-friendly government entails. Not to mention the boost for the arms manufacturers that a war necessarily provides.

Quoting figures about the world's oil production is all well and good but it ignores the fact that American business has gained from the taxpayer-funded war.

It is an historical fact, true now as ever, that wars are waged by rich people in their own interest, paid for by the money, hard work and lives of the poor.

Good one SC.

I'll remember it the next time I think of calling you up to meet me at L&B. :p

But you forgot to work these two companies into your post :

Now onto the Dr. Who Fixed Lucy.

The question of those companies like Halliburton, etc. benefitting from the war in Iraq, is not what the discussion is about and not what I responded to. My statistical facts were in response to a comment made that we only invade countries based on their oil production.

So stick to the debate on which this is about. Don't change the base of the debate now because you are unable to dispute fact which was presented based on the statement from Saladbar.

Have a nice day.

I'm not changing the debate, DC, merely noting that just because not all of the profit made from the war came from oil, does not mean that the war was not undertaken for reasons of profit rather than of morals.

Or are you saying that it would have been wrong for oil to have been the motive, but OK for any other form of profit?

Any money given to U.S. companies to do somethin Iraq impacts the U.S. economy VERY LITTLE. The government gives a company 1 million dollars to build a school in Iraq. So say half of that money actually goes to the Company and its workers, the other half is put into a school in Iraq, which leads to teachers being paid in Iraq and students learning in Iraq. If that same school were built in the U.S. it would create more jobs or increase student learning which would be able to be put back into the U.S. economy. The theory of starting war for profit was thrown out after WW2, all it is now is throwing money into another country and in no way helping your own economy.

How can you even say that DMC? There are contractors over there making millions upon millions of dollars that they will bring home and put in the bank. You know it, I know it, we know it.

Millions and Millions of dollars that was taken away from something else. Money does not just grow on trees. Those millions and millions would have made billions and billions had the goods and services used been put back into the economy. Millions and Millions of dollars simply being put in the bank does absolutely nothing to help the economy.

Are you saying that DC is the reason why people hate America??? If you knew the man you would have nothing but respect for him. His love for this country is like a mothers love for her child. I really cannot comment more on this because I will be thrown off the boards. DC is a Patriot and loves his country. I for one do not care what other countries think about the USA. The only time they like America is when they need money or when their country is invaded and they need us to bail them out.

Again, that was not what was originally said. The original statement was about oil.

Now if you want to get into the discussion of companies making profits from this war, that's a whole different animal.

I don't dispute that corporations around the WORLD saw $$ signs at the onset of the War. That's what they ususally see, bottom line $$. Corporations are in business to make money. They are opportunists. No question about it.

And yes, there is no doubt that American companies like Halliburton and Becthel have profited from the war. But the same could be said for U.K. companies like Aegis Defence Ltd., Olive Security, ArmorGroup and Adam Smith International, Or Jordaian companies like Morning Star Co., or Germany's Mosul Telecommunications, or South Africa's DynCorp International, Turkey's Ulasli Oil Company, Kuwait's own Al Tamimi group, Russia's InterEnergoServis.

So again, your arguement is without merit. The U.S. is not the only country with contractors in Iraq. I highly dount that Bush was able to convince all of these countries involved that they should help invade Iraq for fiancial gain. As a matter of fact Germany would not assist in the invasion of Iraq, yet several companies from their country have been given contracts in Iraq.

Bush convinced these countries to help in Iraq because he persuaded them with bogus intelligence saying Saddam had WMDs.

DS [/b][/quote]Don Smitty, that is very honorable of you and I appreciate it.

But why do you waste your time with him? He never contributes an ounce of fact in any of these kinds of debates.

Now people like The Dr. may not agree with you or I on these matters, but at least people like The Dr. can debate in a mature and educated manner. At least I have respect for people like The Dr.

Don Cardi cool

Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.
