The year we had 48 inches in less then 24 hours here. The old man just about lived in the truck plowing. Plowing and then when he had everything done, he started over agained because it fell that fast.

If you didn't keep ahead of the snow, you were screwed. First it was hard to find a place to push it to. Second, how can you push 48 inhches into the next 48 inches and so on? So you had to do it a number of times to keep it at a level the plow could handle.

If not you better know someone with a pay loader. You should see the number of friends you have, knowing that you have your own plow during good size storms. They all call and ask you for a small favor.

Or you should be willing to pay some big dollars to get your business back open for the next day. Here they truck out the snow from downtown and dump it in the river or lakes. No place to pile it up in city areas.

Anyway. If iy gets bad, most people will just kick back and relax on Monday. Enjoy natures forced time out!

Right now it's so windy the snow is blowing sideways...just got a call from our classmother that there's NO SCHOOL tomorrow!!

Now if only I could have such luck with work, but am almost certain that will not be the case.

Still haven't ventured outside to dig out the car...I don't see the point yet the way it's coming down.

We didn't get it too badly here, maybe 6". We're supposed to get more, but I don't see it. Nowhere near the 12+ we were supposed to get.

Time to shovel out my car (next to the truck) though

OMG!! That's awful; scrapping icy windsheilds, slip sliding all over the place. What memories. Not to mention how friggin cold. Just looking at the picture makes me want to go get my sweater.

JG - you are so lucky. We got about 20 inches here. No word yet if school's open tomorrow. I think that they should have at least a two hour delay to give the people time to get to work, as our schools start at 7:30.

I hurt so bad from shoveling and snowblowing that I don't think I can get up to take the shower I so desperately need.

You poor thing SB!! I hated shoveling the driveway. It is backbreaking work. And then, when you're finished the snowplows come down the street leaving 3 feet high snow pile at the end of your driveway.

You mean Mr. Babe didn't do the shoveling I can see why that good memory of yours would be a problem

j/k I'm sure Mr. Babe helped

Actually, Mr. Babe had kidney stones removed Thursday. He came downstairs in his workboots and flannel shirt this morning, and I told him if he even thought about going out there, I'd break his legs. He got to recuperate in the recliner with the heating pad on his back while the girls and I did all the work.

That's ok, he now owes me big time.

You and me both! Even the Snowblower was hard to work today. 4 hours of snowblowing, shoveling and then cracking the ice underneath. My body is in such pain right now that I cannot even get up the energy to go sit in the hottub.

I think I'll pour me a nice stiff drink now.

I told him that we are going out for a good wine and dine after he's all better. And boy do I deserve it!!

The good news is - the pool's full! Wait, that's a bad thing right now, isn't it???

Hot tub?? God that sounds good, DC. I'll have to make do with my shower massage, although I may be wrestling the heating pad away from Mr. Babe.

Yikes ... you just reminded me of that scene in 'MISERY' !!!

Hope Mr. Babe isn't tied to the bed!!

Anyway, we just got in from digging out the car...what a job!! Might have to do a bit more in the morning but the bulk of it is finished. My daughter helped a bit, scraping the windows she's so cute. I'm going to make her some hot chocolate now while her little legs thaw.

Apple, you just can't stay away from pigs this week?? Didn't the psycho in that movie actually name her pig Misery after the book's character?

Isn't it nice to get to spend time with the kids, though? After the girls helped me, we had tea and cookies. And just when I was feeling the love and the bonding, they asked if I was going to pay them!

You know...I hadn't even thought of that!

To tell you the truth, I've never seen that entire movie from start to finish so I only vaguely recalled the 'pig' when you mentioned it. But that breaking of James Caan's legs is something I'll NEVER forget...even if you've seen it a hundred times, you still let out a 'AAAAGGGH' every time she swings that hammer!!!

And yes, I did love spending this weekend with my little one. She hasn't even asked for money yet!!

I know, that scene is enough to cause major shivers! However, in the book, she amputates the leg, so believe it or not, the movie was actually kinder. Kathy Bates was so great in that role. I was totally unfamiliar with her before seeing that movie, but I sure as heck never forgot her afterwards!!

Geoff - I hear that they fur-lined ones - not that I would know from experience.

My snowfall in Suffern, NY - about 30 miles northwest of NYC. We got about 17". Some drifts were higher. I couldn't get out my back door. Pic 1 shows the snow up the door about 2 ft.

Apple - Marcello's of Suffern. That's our favorite local restaurant. Didn't have the veal SB, but I had the crab cake appetizer and the sea bass entree. My wife had a spinach and veal ravioli appetizer and a stuffed pork chop. For dessert; creme brulee and panna cotta with raspberry sauce, espresso. The wine of the evening was Hofstaeder Pinot Grigio, dry and light with a hint of ...something.

Holy cannoli... JL and MC, those pictures are crazy!! WOW. And SC and SB, you said 20-something inches?! Unbelievable.

What's it like when it's that deep, can you walk in it? Do your legs sink down all the way to the floor, or does the snow get all packed and icy? How weird, all of it.

No bragging today... just stay safe and warm, all of you!

Zia, this particular snow was not a heavy one, thank goodness. It was only heavy because of its depth. The only ice was where the snow plow packed it at the end of the driveway when it went by. It was actually a fluffy snow, thank God.

My poor dog isn't very tall, so she gets around by sort of hopping in the snow. It's pretty funny to see her out there.

MC, my driveway looked pretty similar here a few Thruway exits down from you.
