If I recall correctly from my Catholic School training, that was not the story behind Noah's Ark. It had more to do with corruption.
Anyway, of course most of the stories in The Bible couldn't have possibly really happened. It's the lessons learned from them that are supposed to have the greater impact. Adam & Eve were punished with the emotion of shame when they gave in to temptation, disobeyed God and ate the Forbidden Fruit (with the help of that darned Serpeant).
Adam & Eve, Cain & Abel (I am not my brother's keeper), Abraham sacrificing his son, Noah's Ark (which some people are still searching for, by the way)...all of it is fiction
but each story has a lesson that is supposed to stay with you throughout life. You can reject the lessons or use them as a guide, but that's individual choice.
Pretty easy to figure out if you just think a little bit.
