While I enjoy the work of Pacino just a hair more, I would have to say that Marlong Brando with-holds just the slightest bit more talent.

Marlon Brando is hands down the greatest actor of all time, IMO. No one even comes close.

You're all wrong. Crabman from My Name is Earl is the greatest actor of all time.

So can you tell us exactly what '100 Greatest Actors' poll this was? In other words, who ran the poll...AFI, etc.?

So you haven't seen Pacino in much except the GF Trilogy/Scarface, you have only seen Brando in GF, and you haven't mentioned what you've seen DeNiro in, although I assume you also saw him at least in GFII...but based upon that, Pacino and DeNiro are your personal favorites.

So you agree with this 'poll' that votes Pacino #1 of the '100 Greatest Actors'. That's certainly your right. You mentioned DeNiro came in as # 4. Can you tell us who ranked 2nd and 3rd? Can you share with us the entire top 10?

Just wondering.

Yeah I recognized that hat thinking of the cover.

I'm still contemplating your choice of Hackman. I know very little about him it seems. The only films of his I've seen...

The Royal Tenenbaums
Heist
Heartbreakers
The Replacements
Get Shorty
Unforgiven
The Conversation

Doesnt't exactly seem like matierial for the greatest of all time. Do you feel as though he is widely underappreciated? Or am I just missing out on most of his key roles?

Al Pacino is one of the greatest. Top 5 probably, but I realy don't know if I'd even consider one person to be the best.

As for Hackman, try this simple test to see just how versatile he is.

Step 1) Watch The Conversation.
Step 2) Watch The French Connection.

There was an article a while back in the bfi's Sight & Sound which explored Hackman's talent and work as largely underappreciated.

I recommend it.

So are you judging the actor or the films? If you look at the diversity of his characters just in the films you listed, its apparent that Hackman is one of the greatest characters we have or have EVER had. He's capable of carrying a film as well as playing a strong secondary role. He's adept at comedy as well as high drama. (His appearances in 'Superman' and 'The Bird Cage' are two of the most hysterical performances on film.).

Additionally, many people seem to forget or have not seen him in some of his earliest roles, in 'Bonnie & Clyde' and 'I Never Sang For My Father' (both of which earned him Oscar nominations).

As your list partially proves, Hackman is more often than not the one outstanding feature of alot of forgettable movies. Quite simply, he can do just about anything and yes, when pitted against names like Pacino/Brando/DeNiro etc, he most certainly IS underappreciated.

And speaking of 'Superman'...another great, GREAT and widely unappreciated actor happens to be the wonderful Ned Beatty.

He's up there with DeNiro and Brando. Amazingly versatile, subtle, and a great presence.

How does Kinski compare to those guys?

Although Pacino is my favorite, I'd like to say that I'm of the opinion that if James Caan had not been so heavily involved in drugs during the prime of his career and had a bit better discrepancy in turning down excellent roles, I think that he would be widely considered one of the greatest of all time. Unfortunately we don't have a whole lot of films that I feel fully showcase his talent.

He reportedly turned down major roles in ...

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
MASH
Apocolypse Now
Star Wars
and
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
