I wasn't going to say it, but I wasn't sure of my & my daughter's desire (or ability) to trek somewhere for drinks AFTER what promises to be a rousing dinner which is bound to last several hours. At that point I'd rather head back for the hotel, fall into bed and gear up for brunch the next morning!! Don Cardi... ...please don't hurt me I'm not telling anybody what to do, just agreeing with SC on the venue. Apple

Mama Mig is getting pissed off now at all this so since me and my baby are putting this weekend together, I say we do what SC,Apple,DC suggests let Neal pick the place for Friday and Saturday since he's been there and leave it at that. We'll go to the Moshulu before dinner on Saturday so we can get some good pic's. GET IT GOT IT GOOD WE WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME NO MATTER WHAT PLACE HE PICKS. REMEMBER IT'S NOT THE PLACE IT'S THE COMPANY!!!!!!!

Goodness, gracious, we're all getting our panties in a wad, aren't we?? Can I remind everyone that this is supposed to be a FUN weekend??? To quote my daughter: It's easy to be you - just suck the fun out of everything, you fun-sucker!! I think that we have to keep in mind that we are dealing with different people from all over the country who are all used to eating or ordering different kinds of food. Also, I personally haven't been to Philadelphia since I was in middle school. The reason that Shula's was mentioned was because, when we were discussing hotels, I mentioned that my husband had recently stayed at the Wyndham in Philly and greatly enjoyed both the hotel and Shula's. At that point, SC mentioned that he had enjoyed eating at a Shula's, as had others, and that's where it all began. I thought that seemed a good starting point as a place that could make people happy, due to its consistency and the type of food that they serve. As for where we eat, as much as "winging it" might seem like a good idea, for a party as large as ours will be, that would be completely impractical. We need reservations. So, let's see what the tally is by the end of this vote (Shula's) and where we end up (Shula's) and that will be the end of that (Shula's). And, Apple, as women who have been trod upon for centuries and treated as an underclass by men since our very existence, I think that we should get WAY more electoral votes, don't you?

How funny that you made this post SB! I was just going through the topics and found these : Originally posted by Don Cardi: There is a place in Philadelphia that SC told me about a while back. The ship used in GF II, The Moshulu, has been converted into a restaurant in Philadelphia at Penn's Landing. Just another Idea to throw around. Originally posted by Sicilian Babe: How cool would that be, DC? Very GF!! Originally posted by The Italian Stallionette: That's a great idea too DC! I remember a discussion about that ship. Very cool! TIS Originally posted by Mignon: That sounds like a great place DC. Just think we could go stand on another piece of GF history. And there is a couple of Hampton Inn's there so maybe Bec can get us a discount. Originally posted by Don Cardi: How many would REALLY be interested in Philadelphia? Dinner on The Moshulu. Nice hotels nearby. This may really be a good idea. Opinions please?
Originally posted by SC: I can't think of a better venue for dinner than the ship. Originally posted by plawrence: [quote] I've been to Philly maybe 20 times in the last 8-9 years, and the only time I was down there was to eat in one of the trendy restaurants. Believe me, as far as I'm concerned, aside from the Mosholu there really aren't any "attractions" there. Wyndham Philadelphia At Franklin Plaza 17Th And Race Street Philadelphia, PA 19103 $119 per night. My husband was just in Philly on business and stayed there (he highly recommends Room 601). He was very happy with the hotel and said that Don Shula's was one of the best steakhouses he's ever eaten in. Originally posted by SC: If Mr. Babe says so thats good enough for me.
We went to Shula's when we were in Chicago and I was very highly impressed. They even thaw out the desserts!!
And there you have it! So what happened? Don Cardi

With this second thread dealing with the Philly weekend and its 137 posts in just more than a day, I've been having a little trouble following all of it I guess. SB and Patrick....Assuming that we all still want to eat together when this discussion is over, don't you think it would be more fun to eat in a restauarnt that imparts a bit of the local color flavor of the city that we're visiting, rather than a chain like Shula's? Meanwhile, I made a few calls to some people to help me figure out the place that I mentioned before where I ate the last time I was there. But the issue remains: If we are gonna go see and/or visit the Mosholu either before or after dinner, then we probably should find a restaurant in the Penn's Landing area which is near the ship. In which case the Italian place that was in the poll sounds OK to me. I'll get back to y'all.

Perhaps it is a good idea to start the evening down on the waterfront (if only to hear SOMEONE do their Marlon Brando), and then finish up closer to the hotel where we can stumble into the lounge for a nightcap. Whatever everyone decides, I, being the fair-minded person above all of this silly squabbling, will go along, as I am know for my sweet and kind disposition, and my ability to just go with the flow. Plaw - I really don't care where we eat. I was just saying Shula's so everyone knew that I voted for it. A few more places you guys might want to check out in Philly if you get bored: Condom Kingdom Johnny Rocket's -- It's open til 2 or 3 AM and their burgers are fantastic. There are also a number of family owned shops up and down South Street, bars, and restaurants. There's a Fat Tuesday's as well. And if you really get bored and want to head out of the city for part of the day, King of Prussia is just 15 minutes down the road from Center City.
