Who here thinks that Casino is better than Goodfellas?

I for one do. Although Goodfellas gives more of an insight into the mob, I believe that Casino is just alround a better film...

First of all, I love the story. The way one man, Sam 'Ace' Rothstein (DeNiro) can be pulled down and back by his 'freinds' and wife and ultimely end up toppling an empire. I love some of the quotes, such as:

"...But what the fuck did I care? They were 15,000 miles away, and I don't anyone who can see that far..."

I know Pesci's character of Nicky Santoro was very similar to Tommy Devito in Goodfellas, I like his character more in this film. Which leads me onto the acting. DeNiro, as ever, is superb. He manages to command respect at the same as appearing as an ordinary guy, being pulled down by all those around him. Sharon Stone was very good as his wife and all the mob bosses 'back home' were also very good.

I also liked the overall direction and visual flair of the film, with Scorsese ultilising all of his creative genius acheived durring the filming of films like Raging Bull and Goodfellas. I can't believe this didn't get nominated for best picture and Goodfellas did...

I also love the soundtrack, with The Animals 'House of the Rising Sun' perfectly playing over the final mob hits...

Overall, I just think this film is much better than Goodfellas, which I didn't really care that much for...
