I think you've got something there. Costner's acting range are somewhat limited; he's an 'everyman' type of guy. But he's got a combination of brooding quality & good looks that does make him watchable. I've never minded him...thought he was pretty funny in Bull Durham, and just perfect as John Dunbar in his own masterpiece, Dances With Wolves. He was also pretty good in Field of Dreams. Never have seen The Untouchables, but I hear Sean Connery stole the show in that film, anyway.
