THANK GOD FOR THE BRITS!!! You're the only ones who mentioned Mean Streets. A really good performance for an up and coming actor. New York,New York, Taxi Driver, The King of Comedy,The Gang Who Couldn't Shoot Straight,Raging Bull (his best work),The Deer Hunter,Midnight Run(a really fine performance),his first films which few have Swap, and Born to Win, were good attempts. But.... By and large his worst performance.......... FRANKENSTEIN. What in the hell was that? Franky Stein from Mulberry Street I think.

In my mind, Bobby D is one of the best mob actors in cinema history. It was hard to figure out which role he was good in and bad, but here are my final decisions: Good:The Godfather Pt. II(His first big film and he gets an oscar? Not many actors are lucky enough to achieve that.) Bad:Flawless(DeNiro looks like a gimp hanging around with a clown in a dress.)
It's not personal, it's strictly business-Al Pacino/Godfather 1

im shocked that some of you would pick taxi driver over gf2 as his best acting role. i myself didn't like taxi driver and thought it was boring and lacking in edge. like i said gf2. he played it so well, his italian came off without a hitch. and worst.....well city by the sea, that part at the end where he cries. i was laughing. i couldn't believe how fake that cry was. bah. anyways.

I would have to say that his best role by far is that of Jake La Motta, although followed closely by a few such as Mendoza (The Mission), Jimmy Conway (Goodfellas), Travis Bickle (Taxi Driver), Johnny Boy (Mean Streets) and esp. Max Cady (Cape Fear). His worst? This boy's life was pretty bad. His acting was good enough but he had a very weird role. (Telling his wife that he'll only have sex with her if she faces away from him is pretty strange). Having said that, I've never seen Rocky & Bullwinkle. :-) Oh yeah, De Niro's role in A Bronx Tale, (Which I thought was ok actually) is fairly shit, but there's no-one to blame except himself, as he directed the film and so must have deemed it unneccessary for him to have anything other than a small role. Typical father figure role tho, which is what he usually likes to do although rarely excels at. His own dad was a bit crap really and left De Niro quite messed up as a child, so his way of overcoming this was to exorcise his childhood demons by absorbing the roles of father figures. (Sleepers is one of the few times this really works well, although I don't think his role as Father Bobby is quite big enough for the behemoth of De Niro's (method) acting ability. Jesus I've rattled on here! Sorry if it's bored anyone, I just think De Niro is an awesome actor and I get carried away sometimes. :-) Ciao!

The Fan was pretty stupid. This is not the best time of his career, and similar to Pacino; notice when these guys were in their prime, you rarely saw them? Now, every time you look up, another throwaway movie. Oddly enough, The Last Tycoon left me cold. Maybe it's because I've never cared for Hollywood films about Hollywood (which would also include "Guilty By Suspicion.") BTW, is it true that De Niro does a total dead-on imitation of Scorsese in Angel Heart as Cypher? If so, I need to rent it and watch it again, because I totally missed that.
