First of all, Fredo already HAD some mickey moust hotel to take care of and was minimally involved in the family business...and that STILL wasn't enough for him. The very fact that Fredo was 'NOT SMART ENOUGH' to handle what he was given made him a TREMENDOUS harm to both Michael and the entire Corleone Family...both years earlier while siding with Moe Green and after the betrayal with Roth.

Because this was Michael's sweet, simple brother, people love to conveniently forget that the only reason Michael survived the hit attempt that was made possible only with Fredo's cooperation...was pure luck.

As to the ridiculous poll...it is not a matter of anyone *LIKING* the fact that Michael eventually had Fredo killed. It's a matter of whether or not he had to have it done.

And he did have to have it done. Fredo was a danger to the Family, he proved it more than once, and he would remain so as long as he was alive.

As to Puzo not wanting Fredo killed, that is true. But he conceded since GFII was Coppola's baby, not his. Many people agree that GFII was an even BETTER film than The Godfather...therefore it can be argued that Coppola told the better story.
