Virginia Hill, Georgia peach, was the mistress of Joe Epstein, who was a top assitant to Jake Guzik, who was Al Capone's second-in-command in the Chicago mob. She was an aspiring actress, which is how she met Segal, after Bugsy moved to LA around 1935. The Chicago outfit used her to launder money for them (not unlike the Angelica Houston character in "The Grifters," a swell film, by the way). Some say she was the Chicago outfit's eyes and ears in LA and Nevada. Being Bugsy's mistress was an excellent way to do that job. She also was a one-time mistress of Joseph Doto, aka Joe Adonis, one of Segal's NY partners. Hill got around plenty. She became famous for a choice remark at the Kefauver Committee crime hearings in 1951. A senator asked her how she managed to maintain Joe Epstein's loyalty while living with Segal. "Haven't you heard?" replied Hill. "I'm the best cocksucker in America."
