I think one thing you have to take into consideration is that its not so much established mafiosos that Henry Hill has to worry about. Its the younger ones, the new guys. Just to establish themselves, any young punk would take a shot at hitting Henry Hill just for status. Especially if he's as sloppy as he seems to be nowadays. I think the only reason he hasn't been hit so far is all of the media attention it would bring.

Without Henry Hill ratting, we wouldn't have Wiseguy or Goodfellas. I'd say it's worth it.

Exactly Cancerkitty, true to my sentiments. I think it's natural to hate a rat, whatever for even if you're not involved. But you have to look past that. Think of all the mob secrets we wouldn't know about without informers and turncoats. Personally I like to know the truth in history and these guys are a step to achieving that. But also you have to take what they say with a pinch of salt, these guys are afterall known criminals that lie, cheat, steal and murder to get what they want.
